The youngest daughter of King Triton and princess of the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. Ariel is very fascinated by the world of the surface, and collects various trinkets to prove not only her fascination, but her desire to live on land. Ariel gets her wish when she rescues Prince Eric from a shipwreck and falls in love with him, much to her father's violent protest. To test her resolve, Ariel makes a deal with Ursula the Sea Witch to grant her human legs in exchange for her voice, tasked with earning Eric's love in three days. She almost succeeds, but comes to blows with the cheating Ursula when she usurps Triton's throne, only for her to be defeated by Eric in the end. In the end, Triton turns her human and allows her to live her happily ever after with the man she loves. Ariel is daring and adventurous, although a little bratty, but values her companionship with her sea friends as much as the new connections she makes on land.

Ariel appears in the Kingdom Hearts series as a traveling companion in Atlantica and later a Summon for Sora. The events of Sora's time in Atlantica play very similar to the film, but also include a series of musical mini games in Kingdom Hearts II.
