This was inspired by a lullaby my mother used to sing. It was about a mother losing her child and asking passerbys if they've seen him/her.
It was never clear to me how old or what gender said child was. The way I interpret the song is that her child left and hasn't returned, and she longs for the times when she still had a baby to care for.
I decided to make something serious for Ursa, as I think there will be much to be mended when (and if) she returns. I believe she would try to help Azula, who is seen here crushed and into a deep depressive state.
And the baby sleeping is Azula

I made the Ursa/lullaby connection after watching the Zuko Alone episode. Originally I was going to have Zuko finding Ursa, but then having her comforting Azula became a really strong image in my mind.

That lullaby still touches me deeply, even after all these years. I kept the art simple with no coloring on purpose because it suited well the mood.

I am sure Ursa thinks of her that way, she was very busy protecting Zuko from all incl. at the end from Azula ... I am sure she loved both her children back then.
And that Zuko cares as well showed his sad face when she fell to her doom in TSR.

I'm not sure yet but some day I might follow up on an idea I had for Azula. It will be far from canon, but fanworks don't need to conform anyway

The story I intend works with canon ... still it is not easy as we've seen her especially as child / yound teen being quite cruel while Zuko's Agni Kai vs his father ...
So I need to create a believable background of her being corrupted by Ozai, war minister Qin, Zhao and maybe some OCs ... and Ursa trying to shield both her children from that ... but being the only one trying to lead Azula in another direction ...

I don't plan to expand on her childhood too much, it'll be more hints of what happened and I'll let the reader fill in the blanks. At any rate I'm not even sure I'll follow up on that idea, it all depends on how things go and what time I have

I have the prΓ©cis aprox 1/3rd ready ... and then there is the issue with time, writer's block and I had all ideas and written parts somewhere deep in the middle all around my inbox and outbox as ASN, so I need to go through all the PMs and put them in single files with the right names
Would have saved me a lot of time when I made it like that from the very beginning ... *meeh* Whatever, you always must work with what you have ...

I have the main storyline and important scenes sorted out. It all needs some filling up now, and I'm not quite sure of the ending. I won't start sketching before I know exactly what each page will be, I'm not good at improvising and I don't want to corner myself into a plot dead-end.

If you think about it it's actually a positive fanrat, Ursa returned and Azula changed. Hope that makes you feel better, and that you have a good draining system in your basement
