Description
An unfinished map for a fanfic that never materialized (and won't). It is not intended to be canon and is more than a decade out of date. I won't be working on it anymore, in any case. Sorry!

You don't need to ask my permission. If you'd like to use the map for anything non-commercial, you may. Let me know though, I love seeing what people do with it.

Maybe a little map or peek of the Lost World on the South-East? I am just saying that because it would be interesting, (or maybe i'm just too curious) there has been a tiny "Breach" on previous revisions, (Clearly visible on the first one) where the Fringe was linked to the Lost World.

Don't get me wrong. This map isn't Equestria-as-America. The canon map is guilty of that. There's been pressure to make the next revision of this map match the canon map, but yeah. No.

The cool thing is that this has a decent resemblace to the canon map. And that one is both stylised and implausibly crammed into the page.
You can simply say that this is a more workmanlike rendition.

I've just read ahead and found you're still in the middle of updating it. Please ignore my previous question. XD;
Anyway, I just want to say this is an absolutely amazing piece of work and I can't honestly blame you it's taking this long to go through so many updates. The attention to detail here is incredible. I'm currently in the planning stage of a comic project and I've wanted to use your map as a setting, since it actually benefits the plot I've got in mind. The only thing it's lacking, once again, is the Crystal Empire location, though with that I can at least improvise.
Just thought you'd like to know your work is finding use once again!

I never did find out what the Ley Lands or Lines are for, and what they do... They intrigue and make me a little nervous as to why they are desolate. Are they undiscovered, or are they too hazardous?

Going to go ahead and throw the information out there: I've been using this map for the tabletop RPG that I've been running, plus general reference for Equestria at large. While the recordings themselves have not been uploaded (or edited for the most part, thank laziness), they are on the way. As such, when they ARE posted I will make another comment here leading to the first. Besides that... Well, the party has just hit the Cervidan continent, and I'll admit to taking some liberties such such as naming the continent. (It gets rather annoying referring to it as "the southern continent" all the time.) Besides that, you map has proven a MASSIVE help, so please accept my thanks for that. Enjoy the Chaos.

What materials do you use as a platform for this RPG? Have you found a reliable and aesthetically pleasing map of Ponyville yet? That's what led me here. Wish I knew where to get a printable and reliable history of Equestria, too. (I suspect Equestria and the griffon homeland have been at war in the recent past.)

It seems pretty accurate, and from what I recall built based on the show itself.
As for materials, I run it in a heavily homebrewed MLP: Roleplaying is Magic Season 3. I've added mechanics, edges, races, etc. If you're interested, I should have some of my homebrewed stuff up eventually, and you can find the rulebook here. mlprim.com/ Besides that I use Skype for the actual sessions.
As for the history... well, I had to write my own. I've kept things as connected to canon as possible (up until the players showed up) but I've added a LOT. First off, Equestria itself was founded about three thousand seven hundred years ago. The world (and time) is about six thousand years old.
Equestria and the Griffon Kingdoms have technically been at war for the past four thousand years. I say technically, since there's never been a peace treaty that wasn't broken before the ink had dried. At current there's a relative peace, with conflict being restrained to the Equestrian-Griffon no-pony's-land between Equestria and the Kingdoms. Conflict in that area cannot be used as justification for war, as agreed eight hundred years ago. The first time in thousands of years that the Griffons have stopped fighting long enough to have any kind of cohesive government was during that council with Princess Celestia. At least, in my version of the world. There's no solid history in the canon, at least that we have access to, but there's plenty of fandom made stuff. If you're interested/want some help making your own history, I'm always willing to answer questions/give my own headcanon. Though perhaps not here, as I tend to write a lot and I doubt Hlissner wants to read all of this.

Yeah...I noticed that there seemed to be little to no griffon inhabitants of Equestria, even in highly-integrated Ponyville. I figured something besides distance on a map was at work. Plus, I saw that all-griffon team working out for the Equestria Games qualifiers.
It really makes sense. Traditionally, the griffon was a beast that preferred to prey on horses.

Out of curiosity, have you located the Crystal Empire on this map?
If not, and it you want suggestions... (heh heh)...
You have a largely blank area just north of Germaneigh and east of Prance. That would be my choice for the long-lost and now returned province of Equestria. In my head-canon the main city of the Crystal Empire is called Krystalmarch. That city would probably be along the river that follows the mountain range, just north of the lake, at the point where the snow turns back to plains. That would be in keeping with how it appears on the show. Following that river north will take a traveler to one unlabeled town, and eventually to Gorgonzola. The railroad probably follows that river as well, assuming it continues that far.
Also, the name "Crystal Empire" was a translation error back in olden times. "Crystal Province" or "Crystal Stronghold" would have been more accurate, but Luna's cartographer - for whatever reason - never corrected the old maps. So the error has endured, but truthfully, nopony really cares these days.
Also, is that an alpaca town in the mountains near the border with the Ibex?!? That's neat! I've always liked alpacas. Though I would have expected to find them living on the southern continent near the llamas.

First of all I just want to say that this is amazing! I can only imagine the amount of effort and thought that must have gone into this, and it's great to be have something to reference against when reading a story, to get a sense of scale and location. I was wondering if I might be allowed to use it for my own fic that's currently in development? I would simply be refering to places in the fic, and putting a link to it at the start.
This leads me to my next question, though it may be a bit of an ask given you probably have your own life and it would be a bit of a time commitment, but could you explain how on earth you made this? What programs did you use, how did you get the 'map texture' on everything, how long did it take? Maybe even a tutorial? Again, great work and thanks for sharing!

I'm trying to figure out what you'd need to even attempt to print out something this massive. Not that I'd do so, but...
If someone wanted a REALLY big map of our dearest Equestria (as a tabletop image for example): this would certainly fir the bill.
