I noticed I haven't drawn a single gun since I began my portfolio, so in deciding between two or three characters, I eventually ended up with Cable for my latest piece. He may seem simple but he's far from that, and it reminded me of how I worked on my Hawkeye piece way back with all the details here and there and the gun that made things more complicated than usual.

Cable is most popularly depicted with those huge shoulder pads, pouches everywhere, and all-around macho badassness thanks to Rob Liefield, but I wanted to go a simpler route here hence choosing his more traditional X-Men outfit from the late 90's. The little details I put in really helps give depth to him, from the pouches, the linings, the metallic arm, and the wrinkles in his face to show his age. I also didn't forget to add those marks around his right eye! I also had a version of him with facial hair, but opted to go with a cleaner look instead.

I had lots of fun working on the futuristic gun that hes wielding, and I honestly just smacked on whatever detail there to make it look big and cool! The lights and laser pointers add that wow factor, and I also loved getting to add those effects on his left eye as well, that has always been one of the coolest things I found with Cable, and I'm glad I was able to portray that here.

Cable has always been a confusing character to keep up with in the X-Books, but he's an important character in the titles nonetheless. He's a huge fan-favourite and his books sell like pancakes so there's no surprise for his popularity even until now. Now that I've done the blue and yellows for Nathan Summers, it makes me want to do a Jim Lee Cyclops even more! Well, maybe soon! I hope you like this piece!
