Can you spot the guardian?
I'd love to know how would you interpret this work.
Go ahead and tell me what's in that cave
I started this work couple of weeks ago, never thought I'll finish it, because I didn't like the way it turned out at first. But today I got back to it anyway and finished it.

The helmet is a dead give away, but allowing the eyes to slide down the helmet's right side there appears to be the remains of a shoulder pad from armor, with what could easily be the hint of a skeletal arm protruding...which, the second you make the mental connection of a skeletal arm and armor under this helm, the image takes on a whole new scope, as that would be a colossal skeletal guardian. No idea if this was intentional or if I am merely seeing things, but I Thank You either way, as this does indeed inspire some serious creative thoughts.
An excellent image inspires people to dream, and this definitely does that. Well done. Well done indeed.

Wow, the helmet is so nicely placed. It's such a mesmerizing picture, because your eyes are first drawn to the glow inside the cave, then you regard the title and realize there's something else waiting for you. I love it!
As far as how I interpret it, I first thought there was a fire in the cave, which would lead to people there. Maybe there's a group of wanderers and secret bounty hunters looking for the legend of treasures said to be guarded by the forever sleeping guardian. And now that they've found the sleeping guardian, they have set up camp for the night, because a snow storm is brewing. What they don't know is that a group of natives that live there and protect the treasures are about to ambush them!
....Yeah, my imagination is a bit cliche. :3 But I absolutely love this piece.

Like it. The giant helmet behind the cave hints at layers of occupancy - the remains of dead gods occupied by newer creatures.

Perhaps there's some ancient artifact inside, Holy Grail style, and the guardian is silently & patiently waiting for any unworthy traveler who dares take it from it's sacred resting site...

I am actually thinking that there's some people in that cave, more like Native American sort, who know these mountains. They've set a fire, and if someone will pass, would be more or less friendly. Well... at least they wont try to eat the passengers.
Dunno, it's just looks cosy in there...

Utterly stunning.
The guardian could be the actual cave, the Viking horn(s) on the back suggests there is something in there.
Maybe a safe haven to all the fears and doubts we have as humans, or maybe it is your deep dark side; abandon ye hope all who enter here sort of thing.
For me it is somewhere that I seek shelter inside with my Knight in shining armour, somewhere we have struggled to get to; travelling on will be hell ~ but something we must do... maybe we just need to rest a while and have the master of our fears and doubts come and reassure us in our times of need.
I love everything about it. Would also like to borrow it for part of my write~a~thon that I am trying to do.
Would fit well with a few ideas of mine ~ also I could probably do a story based on just what I see.

It's beautiful! At first, one is attracted by the warm light in the center, then one sees the helmet of the giant guardian. I can't tell what is in the cave, but my feeling is that the end of the tunnel is not the warm cave but the pale light behind the guardian...

I thought that there were climbers setting camp in there for the night, with a fireplace. They are having fun roasting delicious marshmallows and stuff.

I think that there is a highly evolved and sophisticated society of mystic Ice wolve in there. Eiither that or more prehistoric mammal thought to be extinct. Yeah, there is a clan of Dire wolves and neanderthals living in harmony with eachother in there. The glow is from the fire. I'm having a lot of fun with this, and going way overboard. Oh well.

It looks like an ancient warrior who fought against something and is waiting for it to come back.

Inside the cave is a little old man, who is not really so little, but he looks tiny compared to the giant book that he is writing in. It is so large that he sits in the pages themselves while he works, filling the blank spaces around himself in a neat, unhurried hand. What he is writing is the story of the universe, and in the book is everything that has ever happened, including this comment.
(I just realized this is a really old piece! Congrats on the DD, then!)

Firstly, this is a very awesome painting that immediately struck me as being like the habitation of some Lovecraftian creature or lost god. That was what drew me to this image: its' unique, almost alien quality that has its' own harsh kind of beauty to it. It also reminded me of something you might see in a video game like God of War or something similar. Which I mean as a compliment, because I love those games!
Now, for some of the image's many secrets...
To me, the huge horned helmet reminds me of a Frost Giant, so I think that such a being would be the most appropriate guardian of this cave. That is the most obvious answer. But, upon a far closer inspection there is more the image by far.
There is a highly interesting section of the lower cliffs, just under the two "pillar-like" rock formations, that almost looks like somone with their arms stretched upwards and mayhap chained to the cliff itself (you really, really have to use your imagination in order to see that though). So it could be that there is something chained here, something less obvious than a simple Frost Giant. Or mayhap all of these are clues which hint to the adventurer who journeys there that the guardian is an imprisoned Frost Giant. In the ancient Greek legends of the Titans, rebellious gods or titans were often chained, manacled, or imprisoned in mountains to punish them. Perhaps here is a mountain in which the Nose gods decided to punish a Frost Giant who was their enemy in a very similar fashion. Whatever its' nature, the guardian's cave and this mountain scene are an interesting concept!
It is a bit like looking over a Da Vinci masterpiece for hidden secrets... very cool idea, and something truly different.
