Description
I've been trying to paint different things/projects with my new tablet for weeks and I confess I'm not getting along well with the pen + PS brushes at the moment. They are too hard and IMO, the effect on the screen is not as natural as with the other old tablet and my former and lost set of brushes. To that, let's add two other difficulties : I want to change of style (dramatically failing at it) and I can't decide on what to draw (...who to draw is less of a problem). If I don't know what to draw, I can't decide on the expression and composition, see. I'm a miserable fanartist, shortly said.***

I have only discovered your work a month ago, and I had to create an account here expressly to thank you for sharing these images with us. Your work is so beautiful. It has haunted me, especially this piece.

very very beautiful. I guess it shows the young snape after Lily's Death? I like his despaired, pale face. It says so much...

Everyone goes on about how much they love Snape's greasy hair, hooked nose, pale skin and snarly mouth. However my favorite thing about your Snape--the eyebrows!

Nice! You've really captured that sort of unhealthy look he's supposed to have. (Funny that that's a compliment . . .)

I believe the brush strokes are smoother here than in other of your works, and personally I approve as well as the green light on his hair.

I love it. That's the realism I'm trying to get, and I love working with the 3/4 view. I find the full face frontal view hardest -- I always lose my proportions and get horse-faced people. I'm just weird that way.
Anyway, excellent looking Severus, all young and defensive.

Oh, and I use a Wacom Bamboo tablet and Painter 11 -- a lot of times I'm going back and forth between Painter and GIMP, depending on what I'm doing. The Fotolia One Cat-One Fruit-One Clock Challenge has been giving both of them a workout...

I really like this one. I mean, your gallery is amazing, but there's something in this piece that just feel *right*.
I love his hair (it's greasy the way male adolescents' hair is: I went to school with a boy with that kind of hair...) and every detail of his face: from the innatural pallor to his right eyebrow, from the nose (the nose!) to his lips; I like how he seems to hide behind those black locks that shade the left half of his face. I adore the fact that the purple circles under his eyes feel like bruises. I find suitable those light eyes, fixed in concentration (maybe Occlumancy?). A credible young Severus far from bullies and from his misery, for once. Thank you.
On your comment about you being a miserable fanartist:
I've bought my first tablet 3 days ago and I'm experiencing a total loss of confidence: suddenly, I seem totally incapable of doing anything at all. I know that it will take some time to get use to pen, brushes, layers etc, but at the same time I feel empty and frustrated and miserable, because I'm not able to express myself anymore, because the 'answers' are right in fornt of me and I can't reach them, because I'm not able to put down the images I have in mind freely, not anymore. It happened almost the same when I had to change my set of nibs and brushes: they felt wrong in my hands, they were totally unuseful to my goals, they were a restraint, not a mean, not 'tools'.
This just to say that it happens (and it's normal) to feel a little bad, sometimes (especially when technology is involved, IMHO. -.-) At last, I find it quite challenging...
Hoping to have been clear (I'm not used to write in English, so I found quite difficult to express some 'nuances', and I'm sorry), thumbs up for your work here, and good luck with your new tablet (bet you'll win over it!)!
Jules

I'm a miserable fanartist, shortly said. NOT TRUE.
I really like this! It is softer than your older style, more three-dimensional. Maybe you feels it's not what you want it to be yet, but I think it's great! Working with a new technique is always frustrating, our ideas rush ahead of our abilities.

Wonderful picture, love the lighting and his expression, lost in thought.
Will be rec'd Sunday evening on the HGSS Digest [link]
Know what you mean about tablets and brushes, I seem to have gone backwards using mine.
