I love this picture--their faces speak volumes. Β In my own head canon they were no longer close friends at this point; Lily was already tired of his associations with the young Death Eaters to be and his excuses for hanging out with them. Β I believe that at this time their friendship was hanging by a very fragile thread which the Mudblood incident completely and irrevocably severed. Β Of course poor Severus did not see or did not want to see that their friendship was disintegrating, which makes his expression here even more pathetic.

O.K., this is unusual. I was working on a story where Severus is studying by himself for OWLS and thinking that the only person he can study with is Lily. Then I see your picture! I know that it is a serious subject, but I had to LOL at Peter carrying everyone's books!

I love the title - "Examination". It's so pointedly not about books, and it's so very Snape. The expression on his face... even as he's looking at Lily and seeing her beauty, it's bringing him pain, since he's seeing everything he can't have. His hunched shoulders are particularly expressive.
I like the texture on Lily's face. Though you haven't drawn the freckles, I can tell they're there. Also great is how she isn't looking at him, while he's so intensely focused on her.
And I can't forget the Marauders in the background - they almost seem like one mass. Peter's downward-slanting eyes are perfect. You really get a sense of how Remus, Sirius and Peter are acting as one in this situation, and James' slight hesitation comes off in the angle of his shoulders.
All in all, very emotive.

I'm not sure that Lily has freckles, I should check that. I remember she has auburn hair, so that maybe she's not entirely the red-haired type. Good question !

Heartbreaking as it is, it's very lovely art. Their differences are wonderfully underscored with the physical contrast between the vibrant Lily and the oh-so-pitiful Snape (That "plant kept in the dark" analogy has never made so much sense to me as it does now, looking at this). It's like they're in different worlds, like Snape's trying to reach out to her and she's so far away she doesn't even realize. Sometimes I wonder how she'd react if he ever told her he lives and breaths for her. I'm sure she'd be surprised, at least. XD

I don't know, it's open...Maybe on the contrary she felt this love and its "exhaustiveness" and it started frightening or annoying her... If on the following day she broke up with him, she'd probably only been patient with him those days and here he probably feels that she's already going away from him, that he cannot keep her only for himself /for himself. Poor Sev.

Oh wow, my heart almost stopped the moment I saw this drawing. I haven't seen illustration this good in a long long time . It fits the book amazingly, and the manner in which it is done - something in between drawing and painting - is most awesome.
