Yep, you need to add a seam allowance. I usually don't add it to my patterns because if you resize it, you'd have to redraw it anyways.

Hello, I was wondering if you could explain how/when to attach the hair and tail? I think I am going to use yarn because I love how it looks all brushed out- but I am having a hard time visualizing actually getting it on the plush. Any help would be great.

This is a great tutorial on yarn hair for dolls that can easily be adapted to ponies: [link]

I know my pony isn't the typical pony which many people post, but here is my pony made with this pattern. I did want to thank you for the pattern- because of this pattern and inspiration a little girl will be very, very happy this holiday. I did modify it a bit to make it extra floppy with pellets so it could stand and flop over and sit. You did a great job with the pattern- I never really knew how popular even the shape of a regular pony would be and have been requested now to make more (with credit to you, of course)! I do have a question to ask you.
I am looking into participating in events and local fairs, and am thinking of making up a few ponies to sell in the style I posted (by request by many locals), if this is acceptable in your terms. Is there a donation fee you charge for plush animals made with your pattern(s) intended to be sold? I don't feel right going forth and doing something without asking permission, and understand that many patterns for free often have donation fees and commercial licenses and would like to do everything the legal way which is why I am asking. If this is unacceptable I completely understand. I just want to make sure I ask before I forget and make any promises for anyone.
Thanks again for the pattern! My first try making a pony, and had a lot of fun with it. You have some other patterns I want to try as well. Great work and thanks for sharing!

That's a very sweet pony, and I love the changes you made to it.
It's perfectly OK to use the pattern to make plushes to sell - of course I can't charge for it because I don't want Hasbro lawyers gnawing off my head, but really I just want people to have fun and be able to make stuff. If it weren't for other people sharing patterns I wouldn't have learned to sew, myself. I do appreciate you asking first, of course. If you ever feel like "paying" for it, just make it to a charity you like
I wish you lots of success!

Thank you! It was a very different switch for me, and I had a lot of fun trying something new.
Well- you could* always make a generic "pony/ horse" template (with no name attached to it) with an intent to sell, with modifications to make different styled manes and stuff to drive away any concerns with plagiarism. I have actually seen similar stuff done with this method. If you see that people really like your patterns, it could be a way for people to "donate" to your cause, and funds can go towards development of more patterns or even materials for your work to continue producing your plush animals to share. That's why I often modify templates or patterns and make it unique to my own, so there is no issue/ concern with stealing if you ever were to sell. Plus a pattern is like a lineart to your creations. I still always ask. I always modify anyways, but I wouldn't want to ever take credit for the foundations of something I personally did not create. It's just not right.
Your plushies are great!!!! If you ever need inspiration or want to share your work with other communities- craftster.org is a great forum which helped inspire me to sew. There's so many wonderful people on there, great tutorials and everything. I see a lot of people on there interested in ponies as well.
I actually was so inspired, I decided I would give it a go at my own pattern. It seems where I am there are a lot of younger kids who adore ponies and horses in general (very country out here hah) so it's great trying out something new. Thanks again for the patterns!

I'd like to write a book on pattern designing for stuffed animals at some point, since the most recent books for it are at least 30 years old and out of print, so in a way this is teaching me how to teach people - very valuable experience. It's a win-win situation. I've got an account at craftster but I've been so busy lately I haven't visited much. I need to set aside some time and get enough posts up there that they'll let me post tutorials.
I'm really thrilled to inspire people! And of course I just plain like stuffed animals

I really can't thank you enough for sharing this pattern. I was feeling sad one day and decided to make a pony to cheer myself up. I enjoyed making it so much, that I've made three ponies so far (with others planned)! These ponies have been a big part of my life for the last couple of months, and it might not make sense to most people, but having them to focus on has been a delight. Again, THANK YOU!

I just want to say a massive THANK YOU for this pattern. I've never made a soft toy before beyond and have never been one for sewing (classes in school and boring needlecraft tasks in youth clubs completely discouraged me), but this pattern has really single-handedly inspired me to give textiles another shot - and I've had an absolute blast with it!
I've just finished my second plushie based on the pattern (have yet to upload images of them, but will of course credit you!), and whilst I still have a lot to learn, your instructions have proven easy to follow, very educational and flexible. It's been really fun working out how to make different styles of eyes, cutie marks, accessories and mane and tail styles (having grown up with brushable Gen 1 ponies, I'm kind of a stickler for wool/fur manes rather than stitched minky ones, and I love that the pattern accommodates a range of approaches to the mane and tail). Having made two Earth ponies (Tea Love and G4-era Cherry Jubilee), I now look forward to taking on the challenge of pegasus wings, once again using this pattern as the foundation.
Thank you so much for distributing your hard work for free. Rarity would be proud of your generosity! I look forward to seeing your future projects - your plushies are gorgeous and very professional too!

Thank yo so much!
I've been wanting to write a book on designing patterns but never thought I was very good at explaining things. Trying to make a pattern that people can interpret and use and adapt has been very instructive. Also I know how frustrating it was when I was starting out and no one would share patterns or want to help because they were trying to protect their "secrets" - personally I find more pleasure in sharing than hoarding.
