A little bit of math, a little bit of pattern testing.

What kind of math? Where may I learn about the math required for making a good plushie?

It's just things like, say for a leg you want to make it 3 times as wide as you want the finished leg to be. Proportions and all that.

This is a fantastic pattern and I can't wait to get started I'm trying to make Rainbow Dash, and I was just wondering, do you know of any way to do the wings?

I don't have an official pattern yet because I'm re-doing it, but there's a sneak peek on my tumblr which has a wing pattern: [link]
It's basically a teardrop shape.

Im really excited to try this thank you! I actually JUST started watching MLP and i LOVE it. I think i wanna make fluttershy first. Oh i do have a question. What fabric do you reccomend using? I have a ton of felt would that be alright? Also would hand stitching be ok. The sewing machine makes me feel uncomfortable bc it isnt very good >.< Thank u.

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Eimiyuki [2012-04-24 06:01:56 +0000 UTC]
Felt is OK for testing things, but I think fleece, minky (velboa) or short pile faux fur works much better. They've got a bit of stretch, so it's easier to turn right side out, plus felt tends to show your stitches.

say, do you recommend using the tail pattern provided here, or using another? Also, sadly there is no pattern for the mane. Any suggestions for these two things? :/

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to bhholewienko [2012-04-09 22:58:54 +0000 UTC]
It really depends on what pony you're trying to make - there are many different mane styles. What I do is make a cardboard pattern for the mane style and then do it in faux fur, but there are several methods you can use. [link] this has a several tutorials for doll hair that would work for ponies.

This may be a stupid question but are these supposed to be printed on 8.5x11 paper or some other size?

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to TGAPChalupa [2012-03-23 04:31:44 +0000 UTC]
Not a stupid question at all! Yes, these are made to be printed on that size, but of course you can shrink or enlarge them if you wish.

This is amazing work! I was going to buy one of those vintage standing Deer/Lamb/horse patterns on Ebay and see if i could bs a pony from that with excessive head tweaking. This is much less painful. Thank you.

This is so awesome. This'll make me an excuse to redo my Octavia plush.
One question though. The technique of cutting the fabric is to widen an already existing pattern. Did you already do that here?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to PixelsBoltStroke [2012-03-19 04:54:17 +0000 UTC]
No, those are the sewing lines. You'll want to cut around them, leave about 1/4 inch seam allowance.
