Description
Shikamaru with Temarin, Shikarin and Shikao. Temarin is the baby girl with brownish red hair, like her uncle Gaara, Shikarin is the baby girl who admires her dad a lot, and Shikao is the poor baby boy who has to deal with growing up with two sisters. Shikamaru is like ''What have I done?''It's been almost a freaking year since my last Shikamaru/Naruto drawing, a freaking year! Like what?! I will have to make up for it in the following weeks. And I sure will. Anyway, hope you like it!
Shikamaru Nara belongs to © Masashi Kishimoto

Oh noes! Three kids, it must be hard having to take care of them! They all look impossible, despite their cuteness!
But although the craziness it seems to be, I bet Shikamaru is a proud dad.
I gotta make moar Shikamaru drawings too, man. My gallery is lacking his awesomeness.
And you used watercolor for the background, right? It's looking awesome! I wish I was better at it. I need to practice more on paper.

There's never enough Shikamaru drawings in one's gallery. So we gotta keep drawing his greatness.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I used a stock watercolor image, you know my lazy butt hates doing backgrounds. There was originally just those swirls that I did. I do not own watercolors right now but I'm gonna get some to make quick backgrounds such as this one. Or I will have to hire myself assistants like professional mangaka's do and make them do the backgrounds. lol
Thank you for your comment btw, It's always good to hear your feedback.

Oooh, you got me! I truly thought for a second that you made the background! It's alright, though. I did that many times too. Laziness rules! Plus, when I think of backgrounds, I go into zombie mode. I don't know how to make super interesting/dynamic/full of details sceneries. I only make "meh-backgrounds". In primary school, when teachers asked us to make drawings, and it had to have a background, I always made the same background in every drawing. It was a pattern. 2 mountains, the Sun appearing in the middle of them (it had a smiley face, of course), a waterfall flowing over those mountains, a tree on the left side, a rock on the right side, some flowers, and that was it. "Make a drawing of your holidays: 2 mountains, the Sun...", "Make a drawing of Mars: 2 mountains, the Sun...", "Make a drawing of your dog pooping on your cat's face: 2 mountains, the Sun..." They always loved it, though! (Although I have a feeling, but just a feeling, that they just wanted to be nice).
Pssh, that's right! Why do it yourself, when you can make other people do it for you? Heh, I'm kidding. But it's not a problem, actually. Nothing wrong in having some help. You don't need to be good at everything, or to enjoy everything. Stocks are of great help!
Sorry for my late reply, college and work got in the way those past few weeks. x_X
Awn, thank you! You're too kind, sir! I'm trying to not disappear again

I actually just did background drawing for a Shikamaru fanart which I'm gonna upload in June (funnily there's sun, clouds and mountains, so creative!) But I actually had fun!! The world must be coming to an end.
Ah, the sun with a freaking smiley face again. I always thought that was terrifying as a kid. My suns never smiled. They were always brooding. Like me.
And oh please, Lah, your backgrounds are fine, and seem detailed enough to me. Yeah, just checked your gallery again and yup, good good, doesn't look lazy at all. (And I saw a Higurashi fanart I haven't seen before on the way)
Hehe, I was thinking about writing on your wall today to see what you've been up to. No problem man, life is more important than dA. Work? You got a job?
I know that dA isn't as fun as it used to be, but I really hope you don't disappear. Summer is coming so maybe you'll have more time to draw? Maybe continue your Naruto doujinshi?

Oh noes, it seems that someone is using my techniques of how to make backgrounds! Mountains, Sun and clouds hardly let you down when making backgrounds. They're an awesome deal! Good thing you could enjoy it, sir. I guess you're in a better situation than me. Usually I look at backgrounds and think "well, shit". Although it seems to be getting better, as time passes. I still complain (gotta keep being a grumpy pants, right?) , but I guess not as much as I used to. Painting also used to be a pain for me. When I was younger I used to prefer not to color any of my drawings, 'cause, as it was such a boring thing to me, I would rush my way through it. So it always resulted in awful colored drawings. Now I finally learned to enjoy it. I paint with all the attention and patience in the world. (I'm babbling so much! I'm sorry)
Hah, as a kid I was a happy goose. Many things would have a smiley or cute face. When I grew older I became a well of seriousness. Were you always like that even when you were a kid?
And pshh, "my backgrounds are fine"... now you're being too nice! My backgrounds are basically, like, a chair and a frame next to each other. A clock and a window. Posters. Some random buildings that look all the same. Hahahaha aaah... I truly don't like backgrounds. But thank you for enjoying them anyways! It means a lot!
Oh! Which Higurashi Fanart did you see? All my Higurashi Fanarts are kind of old. I need to make new ones! And maybe re-watch/re-read it, it's been a while.
Actually, I'd say that DA is just as important, since I have some nice friends here and also get views for my work. The only difference is that if I don't do the things I gotta do for college/work, I'm screwed. So, yeah... you know how it is. Need to make some sacrifices, unfortunately. In fact, I've been trying to find ways to show myself more on the internet, since it's a great place for us, artists, to get jobs. Buuuut... so far I'm kind of failing at it. I need some extra time :/ Even thought about doing some Streams, maybe it could get some attention.
Yeah, I've been working as a freelancer for some game studios we have here. Nothing that big, nor interesting, but you know, it gives me some money. I also work as the Leader Artist/Conceptual Artist of an American team of game developers. This work, though, was a great opportunity I had, back in 2015. I think I even announced it on DA, when I got the job. I'm working with them for quite some time, now. But we still haven't finished our project. So I also haven't got any money from it yet. But I believe it'll be worth it. I'm excited!
Basically, as you could see, I make games, although when I decided to become a designer I was thinking in making animations. I'm not complaining this time, though. I also like games and working with them.
Oh, by the way, out of curiosity: do you like games, sir?
I hope that too. I want to be just as active as I used to be. I miss submiting my darkness and silliness here.
It'll take some time to be Summer here again, but during Winter I think it'll be just fine! Hehe
My Naruto Doujinshi... oh God... the cringe is over 9000!
I... I still have many pages here that I didn't submit, and were made back that time...
The problem is... they're so... so... so silly. I need courage. Everytime I look at them, the first thing I ask myself is: "... why? Just... why?", the second thing is: "Do you think you're gonna have any morals after that?" Haha
It's like, I want to do it so much. To me, it's basically the kind of Doujinshi I'd love to read one day. In my opinion, it's super funny. But to others... I know it may be super stupid. Heh. I have a weird kind of humor. Things that make other people laugh, they don't make me laugh. Things that make me laugh, don't make other people laugh. So... I don't know. I always get this "should I?" feeling.

I love coloring characters, it's my favorite part of drawing but coloring backgrounds... especially as a kid, trying to color a giant sky with a blue color pencil would take ages and I hated it. So I would draw small clouds and color them blue and leave the sky white. But now I feel like I have to learn how to make backgrounds, I'm in my twenties now and If I don't wanna be an amateur for my whole life, I gotta get better at this. Because a background can add a lot to a drawing, you know. And It's a good indication of how skilled an artist is.
Nah, I'm just being over-dramatic. I mean, I wasn't a shining ball of happiness either but I knew when to enjoy myself.
Oh, I saw the Miss. Furuda Rika one, you know that iconic scene. It's such a great series, I wanna make more Higurashi fanarts, too.
Maybe I missed your announcement, or was it before I joined or something? Maybe I just forgot, but anyway, that's great that you make some money from your art. I hope your game project turns out great. I'm not really a gamer but there are a few games that I really like. For example I'm a huge Silent Hill fan, Silent Hill 2 is my favorite game of all time and I think it's the pinnacle of survival-horror genre. It's a masterpiece, the character designs, the story, the symbolism, the atmosphere, the freaking music of Akira Yamaoka, everything is pure genius. A great combination of art and horror.
I totally get what you mean by having a weird kind of humour. I also laugh at really weird stuff and the things that make other people laugh rarely affect me. I'm like ''what was so funny about that?''. But if you like it that's the important thing. I learned here that it's more important if I'm satisfied with my own work rather than what others liked the most, or what got a lot of favorites, comments etc. I actually did a one-page Naruto fan comic myself, It's kinda cheesy but it was super fun to do and I definitely want to do more comic stuff, especially my own original stories.
Looking forward to your new stuff, seeing you active motivates me too!

Hey, sorry for the late reply and for my rusty English. It seems to be getting worse and worse.
That's true, sir. I agree that the most correct thing for someone to do is to try to get better at something they're not, instead of avoiding it. But... I'd say backgrounds are way more about what kind of idea you want to express to people. By that I mean, you can find professionals that don't make backgrounds at all, because to their work it's not necessary. Minimalist artists, for example. Sometimes having too many information in a drawing could be a problem. As having too few information could also be a problem, depending on what you want to do, or what kind of work you're making.
Thank you, sir. I hope it so too. I think you missed it, because it happened during the end of 2015. I think you were already here. But hey, don't worry about it if that's the case.
I also enjoy Silent Hill and have similar opinions about it, although I could only play 3 games of the series, and the rest I have only heard/searched about. I have played the first Silent Hill, Silent Hill Shattered Memories and Silent Hill Homecoming. Out of these three, I think Shattered Memories is my favorite one, although many fans of Silent Hill find it quite weird for being set in a different universe of the first game, and being completely different from all Silent Hill games.
But that's exactly what made me so curious about it. It's way more of a psychological experience than an horror game. Plus, it's interesting to me the way they made the actions of the player relevant in changing Harry Manson's behavior. It's not only about picking up choices, but also about what you do while playing. It looked pretty neat to me. I love when your actions and choices affect games in a logical and relevant way.
I once started making a game by myself as a personal project. I guess I don't need to give so many details of how I challenged myself in making every action and interaction bringing a consequence to its plot. I've spent many days coding and making the dialogues of one event, that had more than 30 different ending possibilities. And it was only one event.
In short: I love that shit. Another thing: could I finish that game? But of course not.
You're right. I shouldn't worry about it, but I don't know. Sometimes it's stronger than me, as I find myself in that ambiguous scenario: I love it, but I feel quite embarrassed when making silly things knowing that people I don't know are seeing it. It's quite alright when making for friends, but... publishing stuff like that on the internet makes me a bit nervous. I guess because it's only showing a part of me, and not who I am entirely. And, well, I get distressed when people misunderstand things about me, or related to me. (Have you seen those people that give huge detailed explanations, when trying to clarify their point? They go rambling, and rambling, even repeating things they have said 6 times, in 6 different ways, and everyone around them are rolling their eyes, thinking in all possible ways they could kill themselves while almost screaming "Ok, ok, stop! Just stop! I got you! I truuuuly got you!" I am one of those people. If you haven't seen one before, well, hi). I have an urge need to explain myself. :/
But, well, I'll try to fight this embarrassement off. If you were enjoying it, then it's a motivation for me to try to be back submiting it.
Well, I sure do have many stuff to post here! I've been working a lot. Maybe even too much. Now I just need to organize myself to post in here!

No problem, our messages usually turn into essays (which I personally enjoy), so I understand.
Yup, you have to know when it's enough and not over do it. Like you said, sometimes background aren't necessary at all. The easiest example that comes to my mind is the works of Kishimoto. I have his artbook and he has many drawings that have no backgrounds and I think they're still impressive.
Oh, you didn't play the best SH games (2 and 3). I also like that the alternate endings based on your actions during gameplay thing. 30 alternate endings is extreme, tho! lol
I feel the same. Especially about my fanarts that include my embarrassing sense of humour and ''jokes''. But whatever, man. I usually draw for myself. That's why It's called a hobby. And considering some of the stuff that gets posted here (or online in general)... dA is full of ''weird'' art.
Btw, can I get your advice on some Naruto fanarts I haven't uploaded here yet? If you have time, of course. I'll send you links via notes, if you do.

I'm glad you like! It's nice talking to you too, I agree.
Oh, that's neat. Didn't know you have his artbook. I wish I could have one, but they're not that popular in Brazil, unfortunately. Do you know that game Alice Madness Returns? I wish sooo much I had its artbook. I love the art of this game.
It's never extreme when talking about possibilities! Heh, joking. I guess I love seeing the complexity it can have. Also, it's not an easy thing to do, so you can see if the person was doing his job the best way he could. It's easy to notice mistakes in those kind of games. So the person making it needs to pay attention to not make holes in the plot by adding branches that couldn't be possible, branches that ignore actions that happened in previous moments, etc... yeah, I love complex and well made works, with good and interesting plots. Not only saying that it also can create some bonds with you and the character, which is also something that I enjoy in games, or in stories in general.
It's quite true, like some drawings/photos of weird fetishes. Would a fetish be considered art?
Yeah, I guess we live in a world that can't understand our sense of humour, sir. But hey, I like the humor in your fanarts. Usually it's so subtle!
Well, sure. It'll be a pleasure to help! Send them any time.

I imported the Kishimoto artbook from Japan when it first came out. It cost me like 20 dollars with shipping included. Maybe you can import the Alice Madness Returns artbook from Amazon? It's not that expensive from what I see (I don't know the shipping cost to your country, tho).
I think it depends on the fetish. lol. I try to be as open-minded as possible but some stuff here are real messed up. It's beyond a fetish, it's sick.
Thank you, I'm glad someone enjoys my humour.

I've seen one Kishimoto's artbook. It was one of the first ones, back in the Naruto classic. It didn't look that extensive. Is it good, the one you have?
Oh, yeah. Amazon has it, but it's not that cheap as I'd like it to be. Oh, welp It'll be worth it... I hope! Maybe I can get it for my birthday, as an award for myself!
Like that "let me eat you... literally" sort of fetishes? DA has plenty of those. It's quite sick... I saw someone explaining the deeper meanings of it. It's way more than just someone having a fucked up lunch. I guess it's a way for them to express themselves, and making something as expression is a definition of art... however, it falls into that "erotic" genre, that is not considered art. I suppose, in the end, everything needs some limits.
It's nice being open-minded, though. I try to be like that too. But as you could see, I believe in everything having its limits. It's a necessary evil, I would say. Otherwise, I see things getting out of control.
You're welcome, sir.
Pssh, you don't need to apologize, seriously. I take two hundred years to answer you, and you're here apologising for not answering me for 2 or 1 week! I have no morals to be getting apologies! No morals! None! Zero! Nada!

I have the last one.I like it but there's not a single drawing of Temari. Apart from that flaw, it is nice. I also have Kazuki Takahashi's artbook (he is the mangaka of Yu-gi-oh!). He is pretty good. There are nice scans of it online if you ever want to check it out his illustrations.
Yeah, I agree with you. People sometimes use the term "art" to justify their sick stuff. The you know the movie "The Human Centipede"? Its director was trying to defend it as art from the negative movie critics. It's just an excuse for some people.

LahBT In reply to VortexOfSaturn [2017-06-17 02:49:41 +0000 UTC]
Wow, and I thought Temari was one of his favorite characters!
Ooh, Yu-gi-oh. I remember I loved watching it when I was little, but right now I don't remember many things about the show. I still love its intro, though.
I could take a look at it, thank you for telling me.
Geez, that movie is something I totally can't watch. I like dark things and horror, but... movies that have too much gore/gruesome and disgusting scenes, I just can not. They make me sick. Saw is another movie I can't watch.
Talking about disturbing things is somewhat acceptable, but.. seeing too graphic stuff is really not my thing. Good thing I'm not a doctor, or I'd be a horrible one!
Yeah, well... if it had a good plot, then maybe... but from what I could see from it's trailer, it just seemed to be focusing on the human centiped atrocity. As usually what horror movies do... it's so hard to find good ones. They usually just ignore the existence of its plot, and adds tons of jumpscare, that is the cheapest way to make "horror" (although I wouldn't call it horror, really). So, in other words... it has nothing artistic.
It's like drawing a pool of blood and saying "hey, I made horror because it has blood". He probably just wanted to get easy money, since there are many people who are interested in hearing tales about the deep web.

Well said. Unfortunately when someone hears horror, that's the kind of stuff that comes to people's mind. My friends and family hate good horror movies, they want their predictable jumpscares, gore, and out of place female nudity. But hey, I enjoy a dumb slasher movie once in a while. I prefer watching good stuff alone in the dark anyway.
I know right, he even drew Tenten.

Heh, my family also hates it, but in that case they completely avoid it. My friends, though, do like some horror movies.
In my case... eeeh... it's hard to make me liking something. But I'd say I prefer more realistic movies. By that I mean, I prefer watching a mystery/detective movie, or a movie about a fictional (or not..) serial killer, than movies about monsters, zombies, ghosts... supernatural stuff, in general. Like The Shining, Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, Mysery...
Even when I'm reading books, I prefer reading stories that happens or could be happening in our everyday life, than stories about dragons, fairies, and magical creatures...
I'm a "real world" kind of person.

Clishéd Hollywood horror tropes leave me unimpressed as well. Like possessions, haunted houses etc., boring stuff. I don't count zombie, vampire, werewolf movies as horror. I'm more into mind-fuck kinda movies, for example Mullholland Dr., Jacob's Ladder to name a few. They are very 'real world' while keeping the surreal, nightmareish feel as well. Real world is much more scarier than demons, or ghosts anyway. I don't watch movies that much at the end of the day, and when I watch I mostly stick to horror, mystery, crime or slice of life stuff. Not too into the current action, super-hero craze.
Didn't The Shining have supernatural elements, btw? But I get what you are saying, real world person.

LahBT In reply to VortexOfSaturn [2017-07-03 18:06:06 +0000 UTC]
The Shining was actually a psychological movie, but because it's ending I guess you can say it had some supernatural elements on it's plot. But still, it was just a small part of the movie. The whole idea behind it, with all it's craziness and hidden messages was basically to try to represent, in an abstract way, how Jack and everything was slowly becoming a living hell of madness, since he was remembering who he was. And that's pretty much what I like about this movie. It had ressurrection? Sure, but the whole transformation Jack goes through, and how the atmosphere of the movie also changes, from a nice looking hotel to a sickening place, is what captivates me. It's not real either, of course, but that is an artistic way to try to represent madness and things going downhill. Do you see what I mean? It's a real theme, except the ressurrection part, being explained in an artistic way.
(Sorry for my repetitiveness... I already told you how I am when I'm explaining my point of view, right? )
Ohh, Mullholland Dr. is an awesome movie too. And its idea is pretty much like The Shining one, I'd say. It tells its story in an artistic way too. It happens in our "real world", but it expresses its story through surrealism, symbolism, since its going through Diane's dream. So in other words, it also works with its character's mind. And yup, it's super mind-fuck! Psychology and real world works are things I truly do enjoy. When both are together in a work, then...! Man... I love it.
Jacob's Ladder unfortunately I didn't watch, but since you listed it here, I'll make sure to watch it!
Exactly! What's scarier than a lunatic with a knife, or a gun? Monsters, vampires, zombies... you know they aren't real! But a lunatic guy is super real, and he can be living next to you without you even knowing! The real world is a nightmare!
It's rare for me to watch movies too, and ugh... super-heroes I usually find their plot super silly. There are only some that I can enjoy, like X-Men (it's the only one I could remember). I remember thinking it's plot was reasonable, and not too much out of reality. It was still unreal, of course, but I think they could suit their mutant universe to our normal one.
There was a series similar to their story that I also enjoyed watching, for the same reason. It was called Heroes. It got cancelled, unfortunately, since the second season was ridiculosly out of context. But it was also about mutations and powers. The first season had a nice and interesting plot, to say the least.

''What's scarier than a lunatic with a knife, or a gun?'' Politicians. But you are right. The Shining, the book, had a lot of supernatural going on as far as I can remember, like mind reading and stuff. Were they just metaphors?Honestly I don't remember the movie or the book that much. I'm sure they differed in many ways. I should watch it again. X-Men is my exception, too. X2 was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I heard of Heroes. Never checked it out, though.

Oh yeah, politicians. How could I forget about them? You're right. They're one of the worst things in the world.
Hmm, yeah, I didn't read the book. I was just talking about the movie, so in this case I can't say for sure if it was just about being supernatural, or if it had another meaning. I always thought it was just metaphors since Jack was going insane. At least that's what I understood from the movie, but as you said, they probably differed in many ways (not to mention the possibility of me going too far, thinking on many things, when actually... well... it just had ghosts in there). I should read its book too, by the way. The book is always better than the movie, as people usually say.
Interesting, isn't it? I guess there's something about its writing that makes X-Men quite appealing.
Oh, and if one day you end up checking Heroes, I'll tell you that, my friend: Only watch the first season. The second one is pure garbage, believe me.
