Description
And another batch of Indus locales.Top left: An alley descending into pitch shadow with a red lit cluster of plasma signs in the distance. A door with a dim bioluminecent light awaits on the right but do we want to go inside?
Top right: Another passage leading to places unknown on Indus. In this shot we have a large gel plasma sign in a vivid scarlet glow casting in the open archway. To the left a set of steps lead into a darkly lit dwelling of some kind. Like many places on Indus this one has been tagged with graffiti by both sendai and humans. It also seems the HAH! bird tag has hit here (silly little tag of a bird that says HAH! in response to other tags).
Bottom: The last shot is an industrial passage with a slight Nouveau aesthetic informing the architecture. The dim tiny lights glowing on the various bits of equipment in the walls and ceiling are indicating the status of operation. It seems number 2, of the row of junction boxes to the right, is malfunctioning. A sendai stands in the far BG back lit in the open passageway.
This is a more polished batch but still, for all intensive purposes, rough layouts, at least they were supposed to be XD Admittedly I had some fun getting a bit more finished out with these so they're really more like production BGs. I have another batch like this coming soon.
Rendered pencils coated with polyurethane. Digital colors in Photoshop CS3

These are cool, Mike. I really like the graphic simplicity and control of lighting. They look made for animation, ie: a place for the characters to stand and move. You could almost put arrows on the ground to anticipate a path of travel. That's good staging.

Thank you again Tom Yeah these, though complex in design, are simple and clear in their straightforward staging as you note. The lighting is also deliberate to lead the viewer in and around the environment. This is quintessential noir in spirit and also thematic purpose . This makes it a lot of fun to get in there and play with light, not only for atmosphere and mood, but for it's reconstruction of visual space in graphic shapes and form with shadow. Thanks for dropping in!

Another breath-taking batch of scenarios. They do perfectly work for backgrounds on any anime. I wish such an animation someday!

The fuzzy glass window at the bottom is just awesome. About that scene, what I love about it is how the window and that garage door give that sense of a normal city street sidewalk, but inside a claustrophobic sci-fi tunnelscape. It's that same ambiguous sense of indoors-outdoors that you can see in the top two scenes.
boldly standing at the end of the hallway is also ominous. He looks like he's standing guard or about to come after you for having the misfortune of looking down that alley

Thanks Nick, glad you dug how it turned out as you did see previews. It is indeed a prelude for things to come
Indus is fun for that sense of indoors-outdoors. The more we explore Indus the more surreal it is.
Yeah, it would be nice to be able to edit posts -_- Hopefully DA will get that sorted some day.

that last shot with the yellow glass is fookin awesome man. It looks so damn humid in there! Beautiful when that painterly look is contrasted to the almost lineart/cg look of the rest of the bg. You can really feel the change in air density.

My thanks man, I appreciate the kind words. I'm glad that all comes off as it's a spot on observation of the sense of atmosphere there, humidity included. Though I didn't note that fact in the post it's quite true of many places on Indus as we're dealing with an artificially controlled environment and it's not always perfectly regulated. I've been meaning to get to working on some of this material as Indus truly is the NOIR, in the purest sense, of the Theos project.
Glad you dropped by Kai and happy you dug it, I had a lot of fun with these. Just posted another batch in fact
Best man!
