To start the new year, I'm planning of uploading daily for as long as possible. I'm still very new to digital drawing (and have never really drawn that much at all) and ergo, these sketches are very rough.

As I'm in the very early stages of learning to draw, I've been taking a free online course available on Udemy (Free Drawing Tutorial - Drawing for Beginners: How to Draw 25 Cartoons Step-by-Step | Udemy). The thirteenth exercise was practicing drawing a 'nifty gnome'. This was the exercise where I really started putting a lot more effort into trying different design techniques and using whatever tools Krita gave me access to. As always, I only used black ink, although the airbrushes and erasures gave me the ability to use various shades of grey to add some limited colour variety, whereas the abundance of brushes and tools made for some interesting challenges such as making a gnome entirely out of circles, or make a drawing with a single continuous line. Despite the diversity of gnomes, it is No. one which is my favourite as despite having a lot of fun with the more creative and abstract designs, I prefer the simplicity of the original.
