...sorry

Same template as always, as made by ~Abfc

In response to every single person in the entire world who has ever told me "Don't knock it 'till you've tried it," a phrase which I think people just use when they can't think of an argument because they seem to use it for everything.

I've been told not to "knock" all of the following things until I've tried them:
Smoking
Drinking
Speeding
Throwing myself around sexually
Marijuna
Other illegal drugs
Abortion

Yes, I'm really not kidding, I've been told not to knock abortion until I've tried it. Leaving aside the fact that I can't, why do I have to get pregnant to have an opinion on the well-being of a mother and child?
It's not like I'm closed-minded about these debates, but I still have the right to an opinion without having to conform to your standards first. And you know what? Maybe you shouldn't knock my choices until you've actually considered my opinion.

Open-mindedness comes in many forms, but forcing people to try things before having an opinion on them is not one of them.

I agree with you 100%.  People that say "Don't knock it until you try it" are only trying to get you to be one of them.  That's all they care about.

This pothead I knew used to curse me out and tell me I couldn't say anything about her addiction until I actually tried drugs. Then she called my medications no different. LOL . . . what? When I take a pill -- for a serious condition, mind you -- I'm not in danger of getting behind the wheel of a car and mowing down a kid. When she smokes pot, she is.

She was only saying the "you've never done it, so shut up" argument because she HAD no argument.

Nice stamp

Something led me back here to add this.

Hilariously enough, I actually have nothing against pot. It was just that one person trying to shove it in my face constantly. If someone doesn't want to do something . . . back off.

I love love love this stamp. I have never smoked or done any drugs, I've never been promiscuous, I've never done anything risky on purpose, I've never had an abortion... but I'm still allowed to have an opinion about it. It's like saying you can't have an opinion about music unless you learn to play an instrument first, or you can't have an opinion about movies unless you've directed one. It's single-mindedness like that which makes me begin to lose faith in the general intelligence of the human population.

The truth is they know your opinion would probably change if you partake one of those on a regular basis and it's kind of true. I will tell you pretty much all of those drugs except for maybe Marijuana will mess you up if you don't know what you're doing and using abortion as a means of birth control is retarded at best.

Well why in the world do I need to smoke marijuana to know that I don't like people doing drugs to get a high? Why do people require that I do that? Why do I have to smoke weed to know what positive and negative effects it presents? Why do I have to get pregnant to understand what a difficult decision it is to abort a child?
It's a simple question.

I never said you said you need to smoke weed I said doing it would probably alter your perception of such. I will tell you that you probably won't understand the positive effects until you try it. Not saying that you should or shouldn't partake but your friends who are offering you some are probably just trying to chill with you. choice is very important.

But that's the point: If I don't understand the positives until I've tried it, how do I know that my opinion isn't being altered by the mind-bending attributes of the drug, or worse its addictive qualities? And trust me when I say my friends telling me to smoke weed before judging it are far from tokers themselves. They just assume that I'm being elitist about everything just because I'm very middle-to-conservative about issues like whether we should legalize a drug that people say has no negative effects and in the next breath say you shouldn't drive while smoking it.

JimmyJimmy In reply to Waffle-Wizard [2011-06-13 02:08:05 +0000 UTC]

You shouldn't drive after drinking but it's still legal. Cigarettes are way more harmful and they're a billion dollar industry. Diet sodas will cause cancer in the long run but kids can buy it over the counter. The negative effects are not grounds for making it illegal. Especially if billions of dollars are wasted every year just so police officers can arrest people who smoke. Criminalizing an issue that is at best a health and safety problem is not beneficial to society.

Waffle-Wizard In reply to JimmyJimmy [2011-06-13 02:14:29 +0000 UTC]

YES, those negative effects are VERY GOOD grounds for making it illegal! If it will KILL YOU then people shouldn't be allowed to profit from your addiction to it!
Saying marijuana isn't as bad as something that's legal is the stupidest argument anyone has ever used on me ever. I have, and I'm not making this up, had people argue that Hitler wasn't so bad because Stalin murdered more people. You can not justify something bad by saying there are worse things out there. That does NOT nullify the fact that it's bad for you.

After growing slightly frustrated by your attitude and same old tired arguments I felt it was best if I walked away from the keyboard for a bit to calm down. I'm finished speaking off-topic with someone who hopes to accomplish what an entire zombified legion of my close friends couldn't manage and turn me into a stoner.

Actually you're the one who deviated from the main point. No one is trying to change you. I just acknowledge that you don't know what you're talking about.

JimmyJimmy In reply to Waffle-Wizard [2011-06-13 02:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Marijuana will NOT kill you. Marijuana has NOT killed anybody. Regardless this isn't about which drug is worse. Criminalizing a substance as a whole will hurt society more than allowing restricted commercial use. That is why prohibition harmed society so much in the early 1900s. The laws turn people who are not traditional criminals into criminals.
