Description
" the desk journalim is boring. Let's say you arrive at the editorial office at 8am. The...radio journal (? radio news ? the moment where you are talking live to the audience), is at 5pm. Therefore you spend 9 hours sitting on a chair, just waiting for 2 or 3 breaking-news to come to you, before writing a short article. A quite annoying exercice, where stress is completely absent. Where Facebook dominates. It's as if you could bring your pillow and start working at 12. You open the window and the birds from Snow White start coming in. You drink some tea with your friends, and girls are watching cat videos on Youtube. " The words he said himself, the commissioner describes both of his commissions perfectly. This was commissioned by On his reporting job, and how there are two sides of the coin, and this is the boring dull pail side of it. :>
It's so shinnyy XD

Journalism is largely a time game. There's no doubt about it. When the story comes, it comes. And they my come all at once, or not at all. And of course, the articles themselves are usually written in the thirty minutes right before they're due, and that's after all the going out and interviewing and the research before that to find out when things are happening and who would be best to contact. Most people write the whole article in their heads as they glean more and more information. And they pay mind to keep it as objective as possible, making sure they won't say anything that will offend any people or be too specific when they are not exactly sure, calling a bandage a Band-Aid for example. (Band-Aid is a trademarked item, brand, whatever you want to call it, and you CAN very well get sued for not spelling it appropriately or using it in the wrong context.) And of course, often times the hardest part: the lead. They toss around so many different possibilities, try to think of the best approach to catch the audience and give all the information in one little snippet, all with maybe, what, ten words of leeway room because of the precise information it must contain all with being so clean cut. Though, their are some long leads out there, more poetic almost. BUT I'm rambling.
My point is, it's amazing to think that whether a story is huge or tiny, the whole article is put together at the last minute. I mean, you want to have all the information you can possibly get before writing the thing. The notion that journalists live by the deadline is absolutely true though, I think people often misinterpret the true reason for it well, haha, being so true. It's not that they are afraid of not getting it in on time, (though of course it can be stressful, and could could very well be waiting to see if a lead will respond back to you), but the deadline is their guide, the specific goal which gives them purpose, the thing which shapes the way they go about retrieving their story. Without the deadline, a journalist would be lost. Time is everything in the field of journalism, for better or for worse.
