Description
PRINT NOW AVAILABLE ON DeviantART.Hey everyone! So... I decided to do a lil study for myself to help understand certain things about the female shape and form better (stomach in particular). Im no expert at anatomy, so theres definitely more accurate interpretations out there by other artists, but thought Id share it with you all anyway.
Hope you enjoy!
• Pencils and colour done in Photoshop CS3 by Wacom Intuos 3
EDIT UPDATE - Discovered a line I didnt connect that carries on from the ribs, passed the hips and runs down into the leg muscle that reaches the knee area.

Another informative piece. The form looks realistic yet cartoony. Like something for an old-fashioned comic book.

This is very good...
Although, I think the waist should be wider(; if she had a waist that thin, her legs would be, too.. And her breast would probably be a bit less full).
That said, this is pretty well done... Very provocative, tho...
Like someone else said, it almost looks like the figure is posing for a car mag (or a calendar).
XD I really hope you don't think I'm taking a stab at you or anything; if I'm over-critiquing, please tell me. XD

It's frustrating how women are often drawn unrealistically and over sexualized. The drawings are then praised for being beautiful and accurate. This figure is not anatomically accurate, the only women who have smaller waists than heads are the ones with eating disorders. Usually these women only fit into a AAA bra.
As an anatomical reference this drawing is not accurate. As a stylized and artistic drawing it is good and interesting to look at.

The Intuos 3 is good enough to get me by, but the Intuos 4 is the incredibly superior product.

Correction, Cintiq is the superior product
But the new features and doubles pressure sensativity that comes with Intuos 4 do sound rad.
Excellent manikins btw.

I mentioned this before elsewhere but this "form" is the comic book's exaggeration.
If you're going for more realistic, the stomach/waist line won't be so toned or muscular and a woman's foot isn't arched so high naturally. That and (no offense to the ladies) breasts droop naturally regardless of shape, form and size...even highly attractive models have to deal with "gravity".
It all depends on style of course, but that's just a comparison.

WarrenLouw In reply to darkside-ky [2009-05-26 23:15:41 +0000 UTC]
As a matter of fact the proportions were based on existing real female models with the best suited curves for what I wanted. Theres not much exaggeration at all. Not all breasts droop. It all depends on the skins elasticity and the weight of the breast tissue, which all differ. The lines and shapes you see are only for showing construction. both male and female feet are easily able to take that position (naturally arching to that extent) if you stand on your toes.

It still seems rather thin for an example, but if that's what you were going for...no gripe from me.

this is a real help to all types of artists who want to understand the female body when it comes to drawing it (including me). the wire framing does a lot of work and helps others see the shape when drawing is being done. good job and thanks for helping not only me, but other artists.

I couldn't help thinking "Oh mah gawd.. D: " Every time I look at a new pose.
They were simply just too perfect!
I love how you draw the stomach and creates the perception that there's some roundness there.
I wish someone as awesome as you did tutorials.
