Hey everyone! So... I decided to do a lil study for myself to help understand certain things about the female shape and form better (stomach in particular). Im no expert at anatomy, so theres definitely more accurate interpretations out there by other artists, but thought Id share it with you all anyway.

Hope you enjoy!

• Pencils and colour done in Photoshop CS3 by Wacom Intuos 3

EDIT UPDATE - Discovered a line I didnt connect that carries on from the ribs, passed the hips and runs down into the leg muscle that reaches the knee area.

this will help me a lot. thank you. I always sucked at drawing the female form for some reason. The muscle structure seemed to be right but my drawings always lacked elegance.

good stuff man.

Very interesting indeed, rarely did i see people making tutorials dealing with anatomy this way ... thanks a lot for sharing

And i can see the J. Scott Campbell's influence on you in the way you draw the hips .. he's one of my most fav artists (he and michael turner really drew females with stunning anatomy)

One more thing, could you maybe consider doing this same thing but with male anatomy?

And not just very buff guys
but also medium buff,
skinny
and medium fat or something

and if you could please leave the "sketchy" parts that got you started (construction), don't hide/erase them

would be really awesome!

I really dig your construction...
That is something that is something that has been nagging in the back of my mind for some time...
I.E the exact nature/anatomy of a good construction scheme....
IE so as I could draw decent pinups figures without extensive and exacting reference to a model ETC like i would in a normal drawing situation etc....

So anyway it looks like you have quite a nice one going there... did you learn it from manga books or what...anyway i would really like to see a few tutorials on this......
Good Stuff

Hey man, glad you like it. Nope, I keep away from those manga books. Its mostly from studying real models. My 1st understanding of anatomy was through J. Scott Campbells, Danger Girl sketchbook. From there Ive just gone forward with my own understanding. Will be doing more studies like these at some point.

lol, i'm tired and accidentally read the description wrong
I read it as "studies of myself" instead of "for myself"

I need to practice line and anatomy digitally, what did you reference? i have an uncanny feeling that the answer is pin up photos...

awsome.what method do you use to draw the hips .i draw a line for the spine then atriangle for the hips but unfortunately it turns out crap.

this is really cute.

I don't know why, but I find it rather spiffy and amusing (especially the girl teasing with her... panties?), and the bodies look great, really.
The poses look natural enough to speak for themselves and I'd love it if I could draw it.

You've inspired me.
