Description Deb and I drove 50km out to Silver Islet last evening to catch the sunset on the mist ... we weren't disappointed!

I found an ice-cave under a rock along the shoreline and climbed right in. (I can't resist a good ice-cave as some of you know ).

The low sun was shining through the ice and it was very beautiful in there... like some other world separated from the cold winds outside.

I held my breath because the mist from it was spoiling this hand-held shot

awesome.

the only spots i know along the shore here by Sault don't really have good overhangs for an ice cave... but that just means I need to go exploring more

wb-skinner In reply to bulloney [2008-01-31 16:38:27 +0000 UTC]

yes you'd be surprised what you might find ... look for any steep shoreline where the rocks have rolled off the mountains...

thanks for the tip

That means going a fair ways north of here, probably more than an hour or so as far as I know... the shoreline around Sault is actually pretty flat and more like flood-plain... makes for some nice beaches though

yes just north there are some huge mountains along the shore ... I fought a forest fire on one of them 2 years ago

yep... montreal river, near wawa.... a friend of mine worked summer firefighting duties there for a couple years around 99 I think. She found it strange that I ended up in the Sault

you'd have gone in there as fast as I did Teresa ... after I stuck my head in and heard the cavernous sound of the wind outside ..I just couldn't resist breaking some big icicles to get in there

... hope you saved a few good ones for a good ol' fashioned sword fight

.... brings back a lot of memories, i was so much smaller than my two older brothers with whom i spent vast amounts of time out in the woods of the haliburton area (year round) ... i would find small places like that & hide in there for what seemed like hours ... waiting until i could hear the breaking point of fear in their voices ... surprisingly they still love me

the light was very nice ... but the sound in there is something I should have described .. and I wish a photograph could portray. The wind outside whistled through the stags and there was a muffled cave-like echo also.
