Warhound class combat machines are Fully Sentient AI controlled heavy cyberoid Frames. Standing 3 meters tall and weighing in at over one ton the Tarantula is based off of the Mohljaniir Spider type cyborg frame recovered from numerous battle sights along the Najuhlim Frontier. Using the advanced Exo-isotope based armor and Mohljaniir directed energy resistant coatings he Tarantula class is capable of surviving direct hits from man portable crew served plasma weapons, and Light rocket propelled grenades. It serves as the primary Assault cyberoid of the Terran Alliance ground forces and often commands entire squads of automated combat drones on long term hostile environment patrols, In addition to serving as a Platoon level heavy weapons platform.

The frame of the Tarantula is highly flexible with it's various limbs capable of re-positioning themselves to allow the cyberoid to cross rugged terrain, in a walk mode, and achieve 80Kph on it's roller feet on smooth surfaces. While its size limits ability to maneuver in hallways and through cluttered areas, it can manage to fold into a fairly compact size allowing it to enter larger structures that can support it's weight.

Armed with Multiple heavy weapons systems including twin miniguns, two metalstorm style Grenade launcher/mortars and two high energy directed energy cannon based on Mohljaniir Plasma lances. These are backed up by two laser carbines built into it's manipulator arms for light anti-personnel fire.All of these systems are controlled by a highly sophisticated fire control system taking advantage of multiple optic arrays which allow tracking and engaging multiple targets simultaneously across a 180 degree arc of fire.

Currently over four million Tarantulas serve in the ranks of The TAE military, and for several brigade strength combat groups in addition to the units dispersed among regular forces. they are the single largest non humanoid form Cyberoid type, With many older frames being updated to the Tarantula body type. five million units have been manufactured since the introduction of the type. One million have been destroyed in combat, or lost due to system failures, with 300,000 released from service and emancipated to transition to civilian life. The remainder are currently in a state of deep hibernation at undisclosed location due to being decommissioned due to psychological stress, or at their own request.

Like all Cyberoids the Warhound AI is created by immersing a seed AI in a deep immersion simulation allowing it to gather data and naturally evolve along a guided process until it achieves sentience through the still poorly understood spontaneous evolution caused by fragments of previous sentient AI included in the seed code. This results often in a number of peculiar and unpredictable personality quirks.This often results In individual warhounds adopting radically different combat styles, levels of aggression and threat response behaviors. this wide range of behavior often confuses enemy forces expecting the AI to perform in a predictable manner.

The Warhound type AI is cultured to be far more resistant to the psychological stresses of deliberately harming organic lifeforms and has far fewer safety inhibitors against such actions, as such they are not always allowed full emancipation and may remain in service to the military their entire career due to high risk of accidental injury due to the warhounds limited safety guidelines. after extended periods of front line service Warhounds are rotated to rear areas where they oversee training and orientation of newly arriving AI recruits, newly created warhounds and organic troops. Extremely skilled warhounds with personalities suited to command have been promoted to senior command ranks with at least a dozen Warhounds achieving the rank of General and leading Division sized combat formations.

If a warhound wishes to leave the service and seek emancipation the process is grueling, with far more scrutiny paid to the individual by the AI governing the emancipation process than is normally the case for other forms of AI. Emancipated Warhounds are transferred to non combat frames, built to their specifications, and are allowed to transition to civilian professions at their discretion. Warhounds are not well suited to many social situations and often roam for years before finding a situation that suits them. in many cases they will congregate in small groups on remote worlds seeking to build their own communities rather than becoming part of mixed populations.

At least two thousand Emancipated Tarantula Types have established a colony on Thunderhead in the deep interior of the worlds single continent and area so barren and dry that no large fauna, or macroscopic fauna can survive in the boiling heat, and frequent dust storms that can kill exposed humans without armored protective suits. Using the rich resources of metals and Exo-isotopes found in the interior the resident of the enclave have began to construct new Units of their type and culture AI independently of the normal systems.

This unusual development of a fully independent and self replicating variant of Synthetic life form has caused some concern among various groups but the leaders of the group, retired Brigadier General "Hatshepsut" And Colonel "Hephaestus" have made assurances to all parties that they are fully loyal to the allied human races and wish only to be allowed to progress along their own evolutionary path. In recent years the population has began to expand as more tarantula Types find their way to the enclave, and other cyberoids join the fledgling society.
