Yeah. So last night I was taking a study break and doodling in OC...I didn't know what I wanted to do, so I just started scribbling noses and mouths, and I guess it eventually turned into this. Imoutosan and I were talking about the old comics we used to read the other night. I was a huge fan of Gen 13...remember that one? Anyway, my favorite character was Roxy [a.k.a. Freefall]. She was badass. She doesn't have all these tattoos and piercings, but I drew them on her anyway. Fits her personality. And I like drawing tattoos.I was lazy, so this is basically a sketch that took a half an hour to clean up, and then was colored in. I didn't feel like lining it. I may actually start lining things this way more often, since it takes less time, and I kind of like how the quality is, compared to the pen tool and scanning. Ah welp. ^^

This has to be one of the best Roxy fanart I've ever seen. I can totally see her getting all those tattoos and piercings, so they really fit in well with the picture. +FAV for sure

Awesome likeness, and yeah, the tatts and piercings suit her perfectly. Gen 13 was perhaps my favorite comic back when I was collecting and when Jeff Campbell was drawing it. I lost interest in it when other people took over, but Campbell was a genius, and the orginal designer. You did him justice - this deserves a fave.

I wish I had all of my old Gen-13s! ;.; I think I've got maybe one or two issues buried somewhere in the house, but I'm not sure what happened to the rest of them. It's a shame this series didn't last; I really loved it. Thanks for the comment, my dear!

Your open canvas skills astound me. (I can't even figure out how to properly use my tablet.
I started reading Gen13 when I was ten (five years ago) and my sister gave me a bunch of old ones some ones left at the house. Ever since then everyone's been giving me thier old Gen13s... I just got issue 0 and 1.
It's awesome that there are other Gen13 fans. Everyone that I talk to about Gen13 either don't like or don't know what it is.

It actually took me a good month or so to feel comfortable using a tablet, as well. I didn't touch it much in the beginning. XD Thanks for the comment! ^^ You're lucky to still have copies of the comic around! I should do some eBaying to see if I can get my hands on some.

Ahhh and what a wonderful nose and mouth they are! This is really lovely! Its got buckets of attitude and the hair is very cool!!
What amazes me is that this is what you consider to be a doodle XDXD Its absolutely gorgeous! Love the colour you chose, one of my fave colours!

OH crap! Lol, I had almost forgotten about Freefall! She was my fave too from that comic. Man, I haven't read that series in ages!
I used to read it abit when J. Scott Campbell was the artist for it, then left it for awhile and then back again when Adam Warren had a skit with them. As far as I know, they redid the entire comic one or two years back and used a fresh cast with some side role cameos from the original Gen 13 group (Atleast I remember seeing Fairchild in there... I think that was her name anyway ><; ). I'm not sure if it's still going or what, but I remember that Ale Garza was the artist on it for awhile, then it swayed over to some other guy that wasn't as good -_-*
ANYWAY, sorry for the sidetrack lol. This is really a very lovely drawing! Excellent job on the details, and I have to agree, the tats would fit her personality XP

The new cast was pretty cool from what I read of them. I didn't follow it too long after Garza left, but I caught a few of them (Be damned if I could remember their names off the top of my head though lol). I know there was this one white guy that had fire powers (I think his name was Ethan, but I don't believe he had any connection to Bobby), an asian raver chick that had a wicked dragon tattoo on her body that would come to life and partically possess her, a black girl that could become invisible, could see people's souls, and messed with them from the inside out (her powers were weird lol), and some other bulky guy that... errr... did something lol (he came in after I left it).
As far as the story went, it basically revoloved around how these characters slowly became aware of the powers. It then involved them somehow coming together as a sort of "chosen" to fight off an unknown evil that was killing off anyone who had awakening powers. It was strange, but I remember that each would have dreams or visions of a shadowy figure telling them that they would die. I also remember that Fairchild eventually showed up in the story being some sort of protector to them without them fully knowing at first.
Anyway, it had promise, but I didn't keep up with it. I still wonder though how the story turned out from there and what the hell was killing everyone.

No kidding! I would have loved to have seen the comic with the new cast! O_O Damn...I should have kept following up on the series. T_T I think I mainly read all of the Campbell volumes, which I loved.

Dude, this is so rad~ When Gen13 first came out I was so obsessed with it and Roxy was always my fave character, but yeah, I never see fanart from this series. Is it still around even? I stopped reading it a long long time ago when it started going SEVERLY downhill. Or maybe I just outgrew it, either way. It WAS rad and thats how it'll remain in my memory~

Oh man, I agree completely that it went completely downhill after a while. And also, all those weird spin-off things they had going on [what was up with Gen13: Bootleg?], and crossovers. That was sweet at first, but eventually it was too much for a broke-assed high school student to keep up with. I don't think it's around anymore, but at least there's still those nice original volumes to look back on, ne? ^^ Thanks for checking out the piece, Nyanko-chan!

I remember there was one spinoff that made me wanna cry, it was the one by Adam Hughes, that was the only spin off that was any good and that was like, what a 2-parter or a one shot or something?
I dunno, either way, it was a good story till it got all gimmicky like all the rest of american comics seem to ;_;

Those lips are to die for... this works very well as a relatively minor labor-intensive venture. You always take the medium farther than I previously thought was possible for just a sort of portrait.

Gah...sorry for the late response! Thanks so much, my friend. I wish I had your skills with traditional media...since I've taken to working on the computer, I've gotten so rusty with pen and paper. One gets so used to the Ctrl + Z function that it's hard to feel comfortable drawing something that you can't easily erase if you make a mistake. Your stuff inspires me to try to get back into traditional lining. ^^
