Where was this taken at? It looks EXACTLY like a bridge at Senica Rocks in WV

Good 3D photo.

How much perspective tweaking are we talking here?

A little bit to straighten to center the the bridge, and even out the sides...a few degrees here and there

That IR filter made the shot. It's damn good. Great job.

Very cool. That IR filter really worked out well for you on this shot. I like the angle and also the background. It's quite similar to a shot i'd taken some time ago, although yours is far better. Have a look if you get the chance [link]

Like everyone has been saying, the first thing that came to mind was an old fashioned wooden rollercoaster. Very fun picture just to stare at... feels like things start to move. Nifty stuff.

I like the fact that the bridge and the sky in the distance have the same (same-ish) color, like the bridge is really a bridge into heaven, which is enhanced by the silver-y leaves of the trees.

Wow, this is a beautiful image. I love the contrast between the grey trees and the dark red sky at the top - how did you do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

welder In reply to WanderingElf [2004-10-28 15:58:05 +0000 UTC]

The infrared filter is responsbile for most of that, plus a few tonal adjustments in post production.

WanderingElf In reply to welder [2004-10-28 18:49:49 +0000 UTC]

Aaah Is that an on-camera filter, or an in-photoshop filter?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

welder In reply to WanderingElf [2004-10-29 07:08:45 +0000 UTC]

The infrared is an on-camera filter...basically it cuts out a lot of visible light and lets through light in near-infrared wavelengths. (There are photoshop filters that mimic an infrared effect, but they can't really replicate it).

This looks so cool, the filter makes the scene seem unreal, fairytale-like! I love it!

Very nice photograph Arthur. I have to see if I can find a set of those Cokin filters used. It can be nice from time to time though. I think you'll agree with me that it is pretty boring to see the same kind of photography all the time.
I like that you take the risk (if it's a risk to get less comments and favs) and change your style so often. In fact that makes it YOUR style and not just a crappy copy of something existing.
I understand people getting upset about rippers but before whining so much and shouting so loud, they should check out their own stuff. Mostly it's a copy of something already existing even here at devart.
Sorry for getting a bit of thread and sounding a little harsh but sometimes things just have to come out. I just need to find the good ears to listen to those words

welder In reply to rain1man [2004-10-26 16:48:50 +0000 UTC]

The Cokin filters aren't too expensive even new....of course they aren't glass so you do have to be more careful with them which is the only thing I don't like.

But yes, I guess I do try and do different stuff, if for nothing other than to keep my own interest But I do understand your words.

Thank you my friend.

Those red tones are haunting - almost seems like rusted metal in colour - very rich and earthy feeling. I've never seen the results from an infra-red filter other than an R72 before, it's interesting to compare pics taken with an R72 to this taken with a 89b. How much do the colours differ (you said you've changed the colour levels a bit). What I really like about this (compared to other infra red shots) is how balanced it feels - there aren't any high contrasts and rough edges - everything is even and relatively smooth.

welder In reply to londonxpress [2004-10-26 16:45:53 +0000 UTC]

The Cokin 89b is comparable to a Hoya R72, they both have transmission frequencies around the same wavelengths. But the effects of any filter will be different on any particular digital camera. Most digitals have an IR filter in front of the sensor to block IR light, so it depends on the strength of the filter as far as the results. As far as colors, again it depends more on the camera than the filter. When you get color in digital IR shots, it's because the sensor arbitrarily has to assign some kind of color information to what it's seeing....so different cameras produce different colors (or 'false color" as I've heard it called). 98% of the colors in this shot came out with red tones and then rest some cyan. I desaturated quite a bit and added a little of that rust tone.

Hmmmh. I don't know about this one.

It's probably because I have spend most of this week in the darkroom and that brownish tint in the backround makes me think of badly washed print where fixer stains are starting to show. And I'm sure you didn't mean that I'm sorry, I probably need lots of FRESH air and a good night's sleep before my comments are even worth reading.

hello welder my friend... thats a great shot you have there! somehow there are a lot of little details to notice - but on the other hand it is also a very simple shot. I like the simple colors and your composition... the angle gives the photo character - something original, as usual from you!

...Welder, as always, I'm going to comment since I've seen your photo. Absolutely gorgeous, darling.. absolutely, freaking, magnificent, completely unbelievable...almost unbelievably stunning because I cannot tell what it is -- a bridge, a rollercoaster, a walkway? It's so psyche-twisting that it makes me almost get a headache from trying to figure what it is, it's so beautiful, so wonderfully pretty.. you've done it again, Welder.

wow this is sooo sureal, the offbalance colours together, just make such contrast, i must say i really like the composition of the photograph it self, the bride leading us into the unkown, into something we can get a slight glimps which looks beautiful.

Great composition. Feels like I'm about to plunge into another world... Perhaps my world isn't what it seems; what I think is a model, balanced life...is in reality an obscure path leading myself to an unknown fate.

This is a great perspective shot and the tones work nicely with the atmosphere, giving the mood a sort of unbecoming feeling.

Fantastic work!

Gorgeous. I love the scope of this image. It is at once grand and simple. I like the immensity of the background in the middle above/behind the bridge. Very nicely framed as well. Excellent work. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the red duotone, it doesn't quite do it for me, but it isn't bad either.
