He has sword in his right hand - so left side scabbard should be empty 
It would be very uncomfortable to draw sword like this - right hand from the right side

Oh, this is great! From the colors to the details, I like it. Usually character sketches or concept works have boring compositions, but the way the flame jumps up in the back makes this much more interesting and complete.
