The Manticore is a Persian monster whose name means "Man-eater", it has the body of a red lion, a human head with three rows of sharp teeth and a trumpet-like voice. Other aspects of the creature vary from story to story. It may be horned, winged, or both. The tail is that of either a dragon or a scorpion, and it shoots poisonous spines toΒ paralyzeΒ and kill its victims. It devours its prey whole and leaves no clothes, bones, or possessions of the prey behind.
Pazuzu, however, has the torso of a man, legs of a dragon or rooster, head of a lion, two pairs of wings, scorpion tail, andΒ monstrous,Β clawed hands.

Strange, the wings seem pretty small and tattered. Nevertheless, good detail, claws look realistic and menacing. Much better than mine.
Question: do you use references for your monsters (ie animal pictures, mythical drawings, etc) or do you freehand all these?
I've used a statue reference for when I drew my Pazuzu, but it wasn't that great...

i do look up images when I work on animals. @__@ but this one was all freehand.

Yes, Pazuzu was one of the demons possessing the girl in that film.
He's also in Dungeons & Dragons, Marvel comics, and a boss in a lot of video games.
