Description
This is another one of mine. Essentially, if you want to put your work or opinions up on the Internet for everyone to see, be prepared for people to hate it and/or disagree with you. They have the right to do that.If you can't handle that then DON'T PUT IT UP IN PUBLIC!

Putting ART on the Internet in one venue is not permission for Google Inc and Microsoft Corporation et al to rebroadcast it in another context.
47 USC ยง151 created the FCC with the DUTY to regulate interstate and world-wide communications. The FCC stopped regulating wire-communications for subscription cable TV in violation of 47 USC ยง151 after FCC v Pacifica Foundation was substituted WHOLLY for their mission in clear error. ACLU v Reno was a clear error of the Supreme Court failing to recognize the medium independent manner of communicating on interstate and wold-wide wire and radio media simultaneously and invented the "unique and wholly new medium" as a bare error failing to recognize 47 USC ยง153 definition of wire communications.

I agree.
You hear things about suicides because of cyber bullying. Its ridiculous. JUST TURN OFF THE COMPUTER IF YOU CANT STAND IT.

There's probably nothing quite so wasteful than that. I mean, suicide over something like cyber bullying is indicative of not enough REAL problems; it's the result of not having a life to really give by killing yourself. If you even had bills to pay and rent to afford and a job to go to, THAT alone would be enough to give you a sense of perspective, without the terrible state of the rest of the world to top it all off.
I figure things like cyber bullying is the new natural selection, in a way. People who are that weak honestly don't deserve to live. Get a grip and stop acting crazy. Life is too precious.

Whoa. Thats REALLY harsh. I agree with most what you said, except for the part about those people not deserving to live. I've lost people to suicide. Its horrific. The problem isn't that they don't have anything to give because they do, its that they themselves do not realize they have anything to give.

Indeed.
But to be honest, i don't really agree with the natural selection thing.
And about what you said about the weak not deserving to live, well, everyone is weak in certian areas. But some people are just REALLY CRYBABYISH, if that could be a word for it. But weak people don't deserve to die. They need to suck it up and live with it.They need to, like you said, stop acting crazy. AND LIVE WITH THEIR PROBLEMS. Cyber bullying isn't really even a 'problem' anyways.
Life IS precious. All life. (Not trying to sound like one of those animal/plant/earth/happy joy nature people.) ...which is why i disagree with your natural selection comment...because im a Christian. (I DONT WANT TO GET INTO A FAITH TALK-PLEASE DONT MISTAKE ME FOR ONE OF THOSE SHOVE DOWN YOUR THROAT HARDCORE WACKOS.)

Well that was exactly my point. Of all the issues in the world, bullying, and especially cyber-bullying, is not an issue. It's one thing when it makes a workplace unbearable or leads to discrimination, but most people just need to have thicker skins. Hell, most "bullies" aren't even doing it maliciously; it doesn't matter to them.
Hey, I won't get into a debate with you; I have enough of those already. I will just say that I disagree with you. I am an Atheist. But I'm with you on the life being precious part, particularly because I don't believe in an afterlife. Like I had said before, you only get one shot at this, and you should make the most of it. There's something really sad about someone who'll waste something as precious as life over something as unimportant as a few mean words.

People nowadays are just...so...is sheltered the word for it? As children. They make everything as easy and as painless as they can. Therefore we have-*dadadaaaa* Very. Victimish. People.
All i'm going to say is that it takes more faith to be an atheist than it takes to be a Christian. :U That's aaall im going to say.
But if you think about it, why is life so precious and nothing matters afetr you die anyways? SHOOT-i said i wasnt going to get into a debate-dangit.

weskerian In reply to Spoxxy [2010-11-20 22:04:47 +0000 UTC]
Sheltered, I think, is definitely a good way of looking at things. We manufacture victims in this society, make it easy for people to feel like they can't cope, and then categorise them as broken when they then can't. Society needs to treat people less like soap bubbles and more like rocks; that way we'll breed more rocks.
It definitely takes less faith to be an atheist; I only take things at face value myself. Why wouldn't life be precious if we had a finite amount? All rare things are precious. Life is especially precious because it can't be bought or sold. We get exactly as much as we have, and it's our choices that decide how well it is used. It's VITAL to make sure our lives, and the lives of all those around us, are as good as possible, because (as mentioned) we only get that one chance at it.
On the flip side, why would life be precious if you got to live forever in an eternal paradise? Things down here are pretty crappy by comparison.

Spoxxy In reply to weskerian [2010-11-20 23:07:13 +0000 UTC]
True. The world needs more rocks. Or at least something more sturdy than bubbles.
Why i think it takes more faith to be an atheist is because unlike Christians, atheists have no real clue about how or why the world came to be. If you do the researc there is no reliable evidence to support the thorey of evolution. While a Christian's view of the world and the Bible are backed up by solid facts. Therefore it takes more blind faith to be an atheist than to be a christian. Even top scientists that support evolution have stated that there is no way that evolution or the big bang could be true, but they just cannot and will not accept the fact that there is a higher power.
Life is precious, even with eternal life because it was given to us by our loving creator. Like you said, life cannot be bought or sold. Unfortunatly, the fall of man (because man, using the free will God had given them, decided to sin.) made everything super crummy in life and death was introduced to the world. But The Creator still cared enough to give us a savior and all that stuff im sure you've heard it a million times.

Nice one Nobody likes getting silly flames, but it happens to nearly everyone on the net sooner or later. It's just the way things are. Not the way things SHOULD be, but the way things are.

You need to roll with the punches. Besides, it's the Internet. It's not like it's important. The sooner people realise that, the happier they'll be.

lilacbird In reply to weskerian [2010-10-02 16:59:53 +0000 UTC]
I know that's the way it is - as I said. It would be far better if everyone could just learn to be cordial to each other and all those people with glaringly obvious inferiority complexes could get help instead of taking it out on strangers behind a computer screen, but like hell that's ever going to happen.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
weskerian In reply to lilacbird [2010-10-02 23:00:21 +0000 UTC]
We could all benefit from having thicker skins, in the absence of mutual respect. In the end, we need to focus on what makes us happy, and the people who are important to us. The opinion of a stranger is not important, in the grand scheme of things. Why let it bother you? It's only detrimental to your own well-being.

lilacbird In reply to weskerian [2010-10-03 08:36:08 +0000 UTC]
It doesn't bother me any more. It used to a while ago, but now I'm just like 'meh, okay, you just wasted several hours of your life reading over 150000 words of something you dislike. Congratulations'.
But maybe I'm being a little hypocritical because I actually did get a little mad this morning. Someone used the ever-useful 'review' button not to review a story of mine but to attack another reviewer who had a different opinion to them.

Thank you yet again for making this. It's like asking for an honest critique; you HAVE to be prepared for someone to say negative things about the work you have produced. Not everyone is going to think it's amazing or perfect, and you have to be aware of that before you post anything. I wish more people actually got this concept. :/

weskerian In reply to Twistazoomalark [2010-06-29 21:40:00 +0000 UTC]
Considering how adamant that most people are that they respect other people's opinions, they're awful quick to forget that respect when someone says something they disagree with about their own work.

I try to make my actions match my words, so I never say I respect everyone's opinion. Because I don't. Some people are idiots and their opinion doesn't count for anything. There's no shame in saying it.
