Description Version 2

The close of the Sinestro Corps War in Green Lantern #25 introduced a future with seven Lantern Corps, each with a different philosophy based on the emotional color they channel. Above are the seven symbols as I recreated them, plus the ominous eighth corps in the background.

Green: The Color of Willpower, and by extension, Life
Yellow: The Color of Fear
Blue: The Color of Hope
Red: The Color of Anger
Violet: The Color of Love
Indigo: The Color of Compassion
Orange: The Color of Avarice

Black: The Color of Death

If he's dead? He's dead. Black rings only wielded by the deceased makes him a good candidate at least to me. Plus, we all know the Titens need more angst...*puts up sarcasm flag*

Well, Prime DID get blown up by the Monarch in the pages of Countdown, and he was backed by the power of 52 Captain Atoms. I hope Prime IS dead. But there's no evidence that the black rings can reach dead people in other universes, is all I'm saying.

No no, what they really need is more "Evil Titans" teams coming to get them, and to tie up some more loose ends from the Wolfman/Perez series, and maybe one more appearance by their evil future selves... *raising the sarcasm flag higher in protest*

Wait...Prime? No. Not Prime. I'm tlaking about Superboy. Conner.

Oh, him! Yeah, he'll probably come back to life along with everybody else. Him, Kal-L of Earth 2, all the dead Flashes, Ted Kord, Trickster, the Spoiler, Batman's parents, everybody. Maybe Batman will get one too, since they're gonna kill him pretty soon too.

BlueKnux In reply to What-the-Gaff [2008-03-23 04:29:47 +0000 UTC]

lol Sheah. But with DC they get really weird with their whole 'killing' you thing. With Bats he'll prolly just "kill" a part of himself and lay the dark brooding half of Batman to rest. Or not, maybe he'll get creamed like they showed in the JLA #0 Issue. *shrugs* The whole in blackest night set up for Conner would be too sweet to pass up. I could see the typical set up going on now...they confront the Black Lanterns and think Prime's among them...dun du duuun It's Conner FOOL! Then Cassie cries and Robin's like "I already hit that."

Damn! Don't ya'll think that the emergence of the RED Lantern happened fast, and its crazy that the power comes out of the mouth of its user. wonder how that will work out.

Well, it has to happen fast. They only have until 2009 to introduce five new lantern corps in time for the Blackest Night.

Green Lantern #25, part 11 of the Sinestro Corps War storyarc. After the epilogue, they flat out told everybody what the Blackest Night was gonna be, and that it would happen in 2009.

I know about the blackest night, but I think its kinda off because they didn't factor in the black lanterns. I was probably too hyponotized by the artwork to actually focus on what I was reading. I am kinda interested because it slowly seems as if Sinestro may actually have had good intentions in mind when considering the blackest night prophecy.

I wish they had a white lantern...just my thing. I love the artwork, but I really think you should change the text. Green is the color of willpower, not life. Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine. Other than that, great job.

nice but I have one complaint. You used cyan for the indigo symbol.

Also I remember hearing somewhere that black is for emotionless which is why it's for the dead.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

What-the-Gaff In reply to Fennius [2008-02-03 21:17:49 +0000 UTC]

You're right about indigo. I did use the wrong color.

And yes, black is emotionless, that's why it represents the death of all other corps.

Hey man, I really like this. I hardly know anything about the Green Lantern universe, all I know is that the insignia represents one of the old fashioned barrel-shaped lanterns. Do the other seven insignias represent something too? I see in another comment that the black insignia represents a hand.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

What-the-Gaff In reply to zack-sr [2008-01-20 04:39:27 +0000 UTC]

The black one does represent a hand. It originally belonged to a villain called Black Hand. As for the other lantern symbols, I think a few of them are just varying adaptations of the lantern symbol. Yellow, blue, indigo, and red still look like lanterns to me, just different types. Violet is a star, naturally, since the star sapphire is the source of the violet light. Orange is kinda like a lantern, but in contrast to the indigo symbol, it's focused inwards, like hands grappling it greedily. If you were to go back and read Ganthet's description of the seven corps and their uniforms, you would see how fitting each new symbol is to the philosophies of each corps.

Niiice two things:

1. Where is the black one? It looked sweet at the end of the arc.

2. For some reason I just see Superman wearing and been a Blue Lantern, don't know why, I just do. Or imagine, having one of the Earth GL be both a GL and BL!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

What-the-Gaff In reply to DaPuertorican [2008-01-20 02:58:06 +0000 UTC]

Look closer. The black hand logo takes up the background behind the seven symbols. You can see the outline of the triangle and the five digits.

It's easily understood as to why you might think of Superman in terms of the Blue Lanterns. Most DC heroes look at him as a symbol of hope as much as anything else. Look back at Kingdom Come, that's where it's most clear. As for a Green Lantern turning Blue, I suspect Kyle is the one most likely to throw in with Ganthet's new corps. Hope sustained him during his possession by Parallax, and he's been tight with Ganthet ever since he first took up the ring.

DaPuertorican In reply to What-the-Gaff [2008-01-21 01:20:00 +0000 UTC]

ohhh now I see it, it's just too subtle to notice.

Yeah... that's exactly why I see Superman as a Blue Lantern. I hope he at least gets offered the ring sometime in the future. Kyle is a good option too, it would be cool to see as both a GL and BL!

Caracal007 In reply to ??? [2008-01-19 23:23:42 +0000 UTC]

Sinestro Corp was an awesome arc and I can't wait to see how these other corps are introduced and developed. I have a feeling the Blue and Green Lanterns are likely to ally with each other and/or one of the "Earth four" will join the Blue Lanterns.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

What-the-Gaff In reply to Caracal007 [2008-01-19 23:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think Kyle might be more at home with the Blue Lanterns too. I assume that's what we're both thinking about here. Hope sustained him during his possession at the hands of Parallax. And he's been pretty tight with Ganthet ever since he became a Green Lantern. He might take up with the Blue at some point.
