Drenthe lived most of his life in Baltimare, where he owned a small antique shop. Looking for benefits in everything, he had a burning love for money and wealth, however, despite this, family always came first for him. He married under the pressure of his parents, but after the birth of his son his marriage instantly fell apart and Drenthe was left completely without money with a growing foal. He had to work several jobs to support himself and his son in such a big city, and his son grew up with an interest in genetics and invention, and unfortunately for his father, spent a lot of money on random junk to create new inventions.

Primer grew quickly and spent most of the time at home reading books without even thinking about finding a job to help his father. At some point he became interested in comics and began to leave the house for all sorts of fan meetings that are associated with comics, and communicate with other ponies, which made his father relieved for some time. At one of these meetings, he met Shadow Night, a duchess of the batpony race with recessive unicorn traits, who lived in Canterlot and was one of the closest advisers to the Princess of the Night. Both of them were very interested in comics, and this helped them to become very good friends, but Shadow did not even think about a relationship with Primer. However, after several months of persuasion by Primer’s father, she agreed to marry him against the wishes of her huge royal family. As a result of their marriage, they had a son, End, and, after a couple of years, a daughter, who Primer mistakenly named Andy, forgetting that he had a son at all, because of the abundance of work on his experiments with technology and genetics. Over time, the relationship between Shadow and Primer began to get worse and worse, and as a result, Shadow prohibited Primer from calling their future children and seeing End and Andy altogether, taking them away to Canterlot.

End grew up with a serious character like his mother, but he had the same interests as his father: he loved technology. Because of this, Shadow became furious and deprived End of their family's inheritance, forcing him to go to the Night Royal Guard. End faithfully served in the guard a few years and forgot about his technological hobbies, but after he lost his left eye in one incident he left his post and returned home, where Shadow told him not to come back until he will be worthy of his family's name. End began to look for his father in hopes of getting help from him, and after finding him in Ponyville, Primer good-naturedly helped his son save enough money so he could rent a room in a small house in Ponyville along with Drawin and Brushie.

Andy had the character of her father, she is a joyful ball of happiness, but she saw her mother's royal status as something far more important than End, but she could not receive her family's inheritance due to the fact that she was not a stallion. She still lives with her mother in Canterlot and despite Shadow's hatred of Primer and End, Andy is always happy to visit them and even secretly live with her father in Ponyville when her mother is too busy with her duties as a duchess.

When Shadow took her son and daughter to Canterlot, she also adopted a unicorn named Light, a unicorn about the same age as End, in hopes that she will be able to rewrite the family inheritance on him instead of End. Light refers to Shadow's temper with a slight disaffection and simply adores the company of his sister and brother, even if they are not of the same blood. Even Primer's interests seem admirable for him, even if Light doesn't understand anything in technology, but is an expert in magic.
