I'm surprised people are surprised about these facts.
Great message though.

Thank god indeed
And thank you for reminding us of it
This actually made my day, I use to think about things like this when I'm sad

I cannot agree with the other comments, because to me the message implies, things are just as they are right now for me and there is nothing I could change. As a reminder for all that suffering it's well done I have to admit, but it's rather insolent if the purpose is having the rich people know just how lucky they are. It's just sad if we feel lucky by comparising ourselves to less fortuned people and therefore accepting the situation the status quo.

The message in no way implies that "there is nothing [you] could change" in the future; it simply states a way that things currently are. For many people, unfortunately, this isn't just a 'reminder', but a first step into awareness of such economic/livelihood disparities between their self and others. Beyond even 'just' awareness, though, I think part of the purpose of this message itself is you motivate people to actually act in order to change it... but then, it doesn't necessarily say so directly.
I, right along with you, disagree with the idea that this should just be a way for those who are privileged to feel better about their lives because they don't have it as bad as others... I guess for one to think "I don't like this, I don't think it should be like this, and I'm going to help change it" is a more personal decision that, perhaps, this message could lead to.
Oh--and personally, I see this as a reminder of what I need to help change. Thus my thanks below.

I'm broke, starving and often ill, but I live in a country where I can get financial aid, food-help and I have a family who helps me out when I need it. And I can read and I have a right for free education. I am one of the luckiest persons in the world.

I completely agree. This should be a wake up call to people who think their lives are so miserable, when they clearly have it better than most of the world, who are probably starving or dying of illness.

You're name feels like a Green Day reference...
And, uh, tough shit. We all got problems. I really don't feel sorry for people dying of famine when they have twenty kids. They're just plain stupid. Now, I do feel sorry for those out there who are just unlucky. That being said, I think these statistics have been "padded" for effect.

And you're welcome
P.S. Whatsername by Green Day is an amazing song.

If the typography and use of textures would be as good as the concept, I would be as impressed with it as 90% of the people who watched this were.
Actually, the concept isn't that great either. It sounds self-righteous, and for that reason it won't do more than make people think of it for a brief moment. It makes people guilty about having such a luxurious life compared to those less fortunate instead of arousing genuine sympathy. It's too much of an indirect attack upon the reader; it's too aggressive and negative.
The background is of a very poor quality, and the typography is everything but good. Frankly I don't understand why this received a DD. The work is a wonderful gesture, and I suppose it's a good thing that Deviantart gives it so much exposure because of the message, but it really doesn't count as good art.
