Description
School assignment - present an archetype through a triptych. These are three illustrations depicting the tale of Ishikawa Goemon, a Japanese folk hero.He was a legendary outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. After a failed assassination attempt on a warlord who had killed Ishikawa's wife, he was sentenced to death by boiling in a large cauldron. His young son was also to die with him, but Ishikawa held him above the water... Whether or not the child survives depends on the version of the story! D:
This character is usually depicted as a Samurai, or Ninja, but I wanted to play with the idea that he's pretty much a Japanese Robin Hood, haha. So I referenced images of Yabusame - traditional Japanese archery. That's some awesome garb!
Paint Tool Sai for the lines, Photoshop for the colours.
Experimented with a new style, yet again! ^__^
