Description
Well, I couldn't think of a suitable background, so I went without one at all!Anyway, here are Voldemort's Horcruxes - have no idea what I'm talking about? Well, guess you'll just have to read Harry Potter (all SEVEN books, mind you), or you could go to wikipedia... The latter won't be as fun, I'll have you know. ^_^
I've wanted to draw this for a while... since I finished Deathly Hallows. Just a pencil sketch, with basic colours added in GIMP. I may do more with it in the future... Yeah, he doesn't have his glasses. I always manage to ruin faces when I try to draw them.... so, let's just say that they don't count as a Horcrux (and, apparently, nor do his clothes...). >_>
Don't mind the badger, or lack of legs...

lol Well... as I have written above, regarding his lack of glasses, "let's just say that they don't count as a Horcrux (and, apparently, nor do his clothes...)". The idea I was probably going for was that Harry, his body and soul, was afflicted with Voldemort's dark magic - not his tie. ^_~ Also, I wanted to practice my anatomy - which, hopefully, has improved since I drew this, so long ago... >_< I actually intend to work on a new, better version of this some time soon. Anyway, thanks!

That's just plain awesome. It took me a moment to realize where the book is from 'cuz we don't know about the Horcruxes until much later on in the Harry Potter saga. But well done.

my pleasure! How do you get that shading effect though if you don't mind me asking! It s such a neat effect. its sort of grainy... and the hair! WOW!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
whimsycatcher In reply to crueltyinpoetry [2008-12-30 17:18:45 +0000 UTC]
I had to dig up the original sketch to figure it out myself, lol! I have noticed the grainy effect, but never really questioned it... heh... Well, after some minor testing and observation, I came upon the conclusion that it was a result of my using the side of a well-sharpened pencil tip to do the shading - for extra surface area, you know - and then not smudging it in as much as I usually do.
Maybe try it yourself, and see if I'm not just crazy, hehe... I do think, also, that the graininess was enhanced when I played with the contrast to make the sketch stand out a bit more. Anyway, thanks for another very nice comment! ^_^

well you should really try that affect again cus it adds a lot of realisme for some reason! Sort of like a black and white textured picture but in color.. Am i making any sense? But yeah its awsome!!! Did you do the color in photoshop or a similar program?? With a transparent brush?
continue the good work!

whimsycatcher In reply to crueltyinpoetry [2008-12-31 00:50:50 +0000 UTC]
Maybe I shall try it again, lol. I did the colouring in GIMP - a pretty good alternative to Photoshop, considering it's completely free to download, hehe. Um, I didn't use a transparent brush, but I guess you're wondering how I coloured beneath the scanned sketch? I just opened it on a new, transparent layer and set it to 'multiply'. Everything on the layers beneath it will show through, but the sketch remains visible. Eh, hope that makes sense. ^^

thats neat! yeah i tried doing it once but it looked a lot less nice than yours! This it looks more like a texture effect than a layer effect which is neato!
