Description This is a tutorial I have written for patreon, and as a sample of what to expect, and whats to come, I've gone ahead and made the first one free.

This is definitely the ground floor when it comes to what I have to share. In writing these tonight, finding ways to explain what I know, given most of it was self taught and not told to me, it made me realize I have so very many of these to write. I will be covering color with even more depth, after this one, in the next.

The site they will all be uploaded to is www.patreon.com/neiruffino and for my $10 a month and up patrons. They get these as well as many other things as we go along.

There have already been tutorial uploads about creating custom brushes to use best as a colorist, and the brush settings that can save you time. After that I wrote one about how to paint metal, and after that I wrote one about color choice, then this one.

Next months tutorials will be in depth color choice and how light works on different surfaces, as well as how to add atmosphere and mood. When you sign up, you get access to every post that has already been made with the tutorials, high res lines to color, and layered files to learn from.

Great article, especially for self-taught artists out there like myself.. not everyone can learn things through the universities and training so these kind of artist's sharing are a gem.Β

Indeed I learned most of it on my own, the hard way. I never studied coloring the way I did drawing.

I taught Graphics to year 10 and 11 pupils and spent 6 lessons drilling this kind of colour theory into them..same with some A level art students.
I find it curious indeed that Art and Graphics design is taught in so many schools and yet this basic stuff somehow fails to get taught?
you know when I had a teacher start to talk to me about colour theory? when I started my Diploma!! bit bloody late by then!!!

awesome work

Yeah art school can be a joke. I've geen giving a lot for free over the years, but if I'm going to be sitting all day and working on these, now I'm asking $10

I agree entirely!
when I was part of the "poser" community iΒ gave away models, textures, character sets and entire painting/postwork tutorials of a quality that most "merchants" were not even selling! (and got hate mail and abuse because of it)
I think a lot of my stuff is still out there in the wilds of the internet...all for free!

I don't blame you in the slightest for charging for your high quality tutorials. they are worth every penny it would seem!

I've definitely done a bit of both, when I wasn't quite a professional yet I used to upload stock photos and write little tutorial journals.

Alright you convinced me. I was a patron before and I'm signing back up lol. This is excellent. I already knew this concept but having it reinforced like this is super helpful.

yep. i found this stuff out when noticing the colors in different light settings. like yellow comes off as green in a night/blue setting. it's a curiousity.

a lot of people dont take the time to sit and observe color, I do a lot.

since I wanted to learn to do different moods and not just day, I started looking into what colors were what and how they'd reflect in different moods. some of the results were a bit surprising.
