Description
By becoming a beast, one frees himself from the burden of being man-------------------
Tried to draw without a starting sketch, immediately going for a fineliner. Three hours were put into this.

Amazing that it took only three hours, moreover that you used no sketch. The lines and their amount make try to mess with eyes and depth perception, at least in my case. The more I focus on a part of the drawing the more it tries to evade my focus, other parts try to interfere and everything starts to spin. And then it comes back to standstill and I can almost hear the anchoring rumble it makes. Creating depth usually is metaphorical, here it is literal as well. You achieved that on a first try so congratulations on that, contours and shadows blend and stand out from each other multiplying that resonating feel one gets looking at such works.
Lack of colours makes the body pale as death while it makes the environment alive in a way no colour could, the feeling of suspension, complexity, dread and release so very well caught on the face are reflections of the real nature of the form that is present just beyond reach. Form but not the one of life. One that devours existence and leaves permanent marks on whatever is left. Creates a beast in place of a peaceful being but it wouldn't be able to do it alone, not without the said being willing to become one.
Your musical inspiration makes one think about other layers of becoming a beast, not necessarily literal ones. Brings memories of a movie called "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas" where the quote you used was the opening screen and you can say it is loosely related to the song.

Ah, Insomnium. A lovely band I can listen to for hours, dramatic as hell. I like the way you describe this depth perception. The many arranged lines have indeed been created to mess around, a downward pulling force in the lower half and an upward force in the upper half. You read me like a book, ahah.
I really want to do more work of this kind. Kill off everything without causing any harm. Or maybe I do..hehe.

I am not sure of the motivation to create this, and for that I am slightly concerned. However, addressing strictly aesthetics, I find this very dark style quite creative, dark in nature, but not going with the typical cliche's that other dark pieces have, keep it up!

My dear friend, I am not the person to ask about that XD I really am not that skilled in backgrounds, and do my best with what I can, however, I do know of some websites that allow you to use 3d templates and trace off that, and also, knowing good geometric shapes and perspective helps.
