Description A Step-by-step for The Last Sunset ! I've mostly written this when I have been REALLY tired so pardon me if there's big mistakes with my English. And please tell me if you can't understand anything of this x3

Step 1. The sketch. It was drawn on a paper and I just took a photo of it and moved it to my computer (The next two steps were made to the same size as the sketch's "background" is, but you don't have to care about that.)

2. The lineart. I made three different layers for the lineart, one for the body, the tail feathers and for some parts of the wing on the front, one for the bending wing feathers of the front wing and one for the other wing. Lineart made with 3px hard brush, size jitter on with the pen pressure.

3. The flat colors. I hate all of my pics during this progress. They look so boring >_> And once again three new layers for the colors of the same stuff as with the lineart (congrats if you really do understand anything of this)

4. Starting to do the background. One layer for the dark blue sky, and three layers for the gradients (yes, I'm a boring person and I use gradients) of the sun set sky. On top little light yellow, then a bit of light orange, and to the bottom kinda aquaish light blue.

5. Clouds. CLOUDS. Always those darn CLOUDS!!!... Yes, I like clouds. Way too much... I use Chalk brush (the one that's originally 23px but I change it's size to a lot bigger) for the clouds, always whether I'm drawing them, smudging them or doing anything to them. Almost always... If you look close enough, you'll see that I've smudged some parts of the clouds and some parts still look like what they look like after I've drawn them. Duh... This starts to sound kinda stupid.

6. Ewww, I know. Purple goo tipped with reddish orange goo. I hope this will look much better later... But yeah, clouds of only one color would look utterly boring, so I'm gonna put some more colors to them, starting with these reddish edges caused by the setting sun. As I don't want those red edges on the same layer with the purple base clouds and I don't want the red stuff to spread all around the picture command "load selection" will be handy. At least with some Photoshops it works by selecting the layer with the clouds' base in it and then choosing Select -> Load selection from the tool bar or upper banner whateveritis. Then there's this pop up window (I didn't even read what it said) and I pressed OK and wolá! We have the selection we needed! Then we just add that red goo on a new layer on top pf the clouds' base layer. Then we need some smudge once again.

7. Now the clouds look more like clouds than differently colored goos mixed together... More shades, more smudge. I added some yellow edges on the clouds, and added some light yellow around that area which should be 'closest' to the sun. Blurring that light color makes kinda nice effect to the pic. I also copied the base layer of the clouds (the 'purple clouds' layer), added some noise to it and lowered the opacity of that layer. It also gives some nice change to the clouds.

8. Stars were made with ordinary soft round brush and white color. Copying that layer and blurring it is an easy way to get those stars look like shiny little things and not just some white round dots on the sky. I also added the color of the shadings. Three new layers for the shadings as there's three color layers for the phoenix. Once again I loaded the selection of the colors, and added the color on the shading layers with the paint bucket. I set the layer style to 'multiply' and the color of the shadings is some kind of brownish-greyish-orange. If you don't know what kind of changes the multiplied layers make to pictures I'd advice you to experiment with them. If you add white color to a multiplied layer it doesn't make any change to the pic. If you add black, it will be black. Other colors will make the picture to look more or less darker with some nices shades if you choose the right colors. Like in this case that brownish orange makes a great start for the shadings. Now I'll use the erase tool to make some details to the shadings.

9. The first set of the shadings is now finished. So yeah, I made the details to them by erasing the color of the shadings from those parts I didn't want to be in shade. Simple as that.

10. Second shadings, this time made as soft shades. Soft round brush with opacity jitter on pen pressure, a bit lighter brownish-orange than with the last shadings and once again three new layers set to style multiply.

11. I added third shadings, once again with cell-shades. Three new layers for them with the layer style set at multiply. I also used the same color for them as I used for the soft shades. After them I added some highlights to a new layer (to three new layers in fact, once AGAIN) setting that layer's style to "soft light". I used light orange on the frontal parts of the phoenix and light blue on it's back. If you wonder why light blue and why on the back, I'll say you one thing: SKY.

12. I could say the pic was kinda ready after the last step but I wanted to get a bit of motion to this pic. That's why I made those yellowish fades behind the wings. Two new layers, one behind the wing on the front and another behind the other. And now I kinda say the pic is enough ready for me.

_ _ _ _
I hope even someone either had some help of this or enjoyed viewing this anyway! If you have anything to ask, go for it!

Thank you! :> And it's just takes some practise (and experimenting!) to learn to do digital pics. It did take few years from me to learn to do decent pics with Photoshop xD

Do you make your pics only with photoshop? No with a "tablet"?

I do use tablet, I have Aiptek's Slim Tablet 600U It's really handy while drawing especially the lineart. My hands are so shaky that I can't do much art with a mouse xD

Thanks. I have a new ID pic. This I draw ( the lineart) by hand and the colouring I do with PS-Elements. I am sad, I have no tablet... ( But I will wish one to Chrismas for my laptop!)
Sorry for my bad English.
