I watched from the window as Danny came slogging back to the house through the unusually cold March drizzle. He didn't even bother to pull his hood up while leaving the barn, I held the door for him and he left his boots on the porch. The owner of Paige Stud, John Maybe, the head groomer Larry and I awaited a verdict. Danny looked at all of us with steely blue eyes,
"He says her intestines have twisted on themselves, for whatever reason. He says he can do surgery but the chances of survival are pretty slim." Larry shook his head and I just starred in disbelief. For the past two weeks Cajun Kat, our rare chestnut Friesian mare had been showing signs of some abdominal discomfort, but now this?
"He said her gut sounds are minimal, her intestinal tissues are dying and the damage is more than likely irreversible."
The mare we had so lovingly rescued after she was abondoned in Hurricane Katrina was now in a fight for her life. John braved the elements with Danny to go out to the barn. He felt in his honest professional opinion that Katrina was in a lot of pain, she was humanely euthanized later that evening.

At the birth/creation/adoption/purchase of all my horses I do a randomizer test [link] to determine their future life, all of my horses have a predetermined age and cause of death, unfortunately Cajun Kat only lived to be 11 and died of colic complications, the first horse to die at Paige Stud while I was there (since its creation in HArpg) We'll miss ya big girl
