Description Really just an over-glorified doodle. I started it at a friends house, didn't have my Prismacolors, so I did it in pencil, finished it at home. As it is not in colour, I decided aginst trying to do something really complicted for the background. I think I might have gone a little too simple, heh. Just a picture of me (In really strange clothes) in a cave of some sort, checking over my shoulder 'cause I thought I heard something. Just something I wanted finish before I got to prizes. For a pencil work, I rather like it. Done in B, HB, 6B, and 9B. Just for fun <^^>

The lack of color makes it appear to be from the D&D 'Darkvision' ability... Makes a nice touch...

Shoot, that's some nice pencil work. I like how well you did the light in darkness effect, and something that looks like this...well, color is good, of course, but it sticks out nicely

Only thing is, it kind of looks like his hair and clothes are blowing, but the atmosphere is rather...still.

Very nice, I truely love the shading in this black and white picture. Makes it easier due to the face that I'm color blind in one eye. But yeah. I give this two paws up and a tail wag. GREAT WORK!

Looking good, but would I would do to enhance the dramatic light is push your values even more. Make your shadows darker. Right now its still a bit too greyed out. While this isnt bad just needs a bit more value. Good job there.

"an over-glorified doodle"

Wow, some doodle. O.o;

All done in pencil, eh? I say this came out incredibly well! I have a pencil set, but I don't think I've ever really done anything that good to use 'em. X3

Looks awesome! Yay for pencil shading, although even with a 9B that bakcground black must have sucked. My hand would have fallen off of I tried that Anyways, it's grat to see soemthing a bit different from you in terms of media, great job with the shading and everything. And another thing, holy crap! I love those feet!!!!!!!

WilliamRichard In reply to knight-owl [2005-10-02 01:57:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that background took a while, not nearly as long as a real one would have. It hurt a lot less than a normal one, too.
Why do people keep mentioning the feet in this one? They look worse than normal, to me. Or, do you just have a thing for large furry feet?
Thanks <^^>

As it gets darker the sells in you're retina that register color (either rods or cones, I can't remember which) shut down. That's why you can't see color at night. Cool.

Its this game based off D&D. And there's this place called the Underdark, which is a world beneath the surface world. A whole world complete with rivers, mountains, and oceans that constantly changes with the shifting of the earth around it

Ooooo, a pencil shaded piece eh? A very nice piece, hehe, has a defiant eary feel to it, quite spooky to it really, hehe. One thing though that I think should be pointed out that might help you is lighting. Generally I feel the lighting is comming from us, the viewer, shining right at the figure from the front, yet he's holding a lamp behind him as his only sorce of light. Because of this I personally would have made the right hand side of the image much darker, due to the amount of shadow that would be cast, and therefore making the image much more dynamic. Other than that this is still a really strong image, hehe. You proportions are really comming along, and it's great to see you trying something different and experimenting a little. Good job! ^.^ *pats*

Yeah, you're right about the shading. I considered doing it- I saw it too- but then I remembered two things- it's just a doodle, and I'm really lazy, so I whatever'd it and moved on

Ah! The boy is skilled with normal pencils as well! Who knew?

Very cool. It really exhibits your talent for raw texture and shading. Though, I doubt I would have recognized the character if you hadn't said who it was in the description.

I like the cave idea. You went with the flow instead of fighting it, and came out with something good. I actually kinda like the simplicity of it, too, where a lot of it is just black. It's not overly panoramic, but it certainly is spooky! And DANG, you draw digitigrade feet better every time I look!

I have one bug, though. The stalactites and stalagmites... They're so perfectly conical! Yes, that's the basic shape that the 'ites should be, and you did an excellent job with their textures, but I can't help but think that they would look much more natural with more bumps and curves, or even some double-tips and such. I have been inside of many caves, and have seen thousands of various 'ites in person, and I don't remember any, let alone all of them being so perfect! But, hell, I guess that just the way that cave formations look in Willyworld.

I know how you like pointy things!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WilliamRichard In reply to Peachfuzz [2005-10-02 01:37:35 +0000 UTC]

-headdesk- I knew those things looked stupid for some reason. If I'd had the energy to actually take three seconds and picture something like that I'd have fixed them, despite the fact that I've never been in a cave or any such thing myself. Fortunately, that's the good thing about doodles like this- it doesn't matter if you screw up a small detail (or a major one).
Well, I know now for next time.
Thanks a lot <^^>

...what makes you think I like pointy things so much?
