and for some reason, i never took the time to draw the autobot symbols on this one.of the three submissions today, this lineart is not quite as old.
when i started this pic, i had the intention of doing a couple more similar type pics of my fancharacters with canon g1 characters. (ie; perceptor catching rodeo daydreaming about hanging out with ironhide .... or beamer practicing swords with springer). maybe eventually i'll get to those.

i know i've got a g1 sideswipe floating around somewhere. no way i've been drawing tf's this long and not drawn him. lol gonna have to dig around for that.

thank you! this is actually one of my favorite fancharacter drawings. i had at one point intended to do a couple more of these with a canon character interacting with one of my OC's in someway. but... i got lazy. lol maybe sometime in the near future i can at least finish up some lineart for a few more pics like this one.

That would be awesome! And haha, i'm guilty with the OC and Canon interaction. I really see nothing wrong with it, and lots of people tend to do it in many ways-as long as Hasbro doesn't come down with the ban hammer I think we'll all be alright. LOL

are they strict with that? i've never really seen them come out an tell someone (especially fanart) "no you can't do that!" i was always kinda curious about that kinda stuff.

I don't think so, if they were I think all most all of the TF fans here on DA would be punted with it, LOL. I think the only ones who say anything to artists are just other artists and fans who don't agree with what someone draws...which in itself is sad face, but oh well.
I remember reading somewhere someone talking about copyrights because of selling doujins - and apparently all forms of fanart are basically copyright infringement, but Hasbro doesn't really seem to mind, neither does a lot of the other big name companies. I really don't know much about it though, and well, they still get their money. I think the only way they would come down on people is if they are making a big profit off of what they are doing. I think little commissions and such aren't enough to get their attention, though i'm still iffy myself about doing paid images.

i just figured it was about whether you made money off of a brand name or character likeness. but if you sell something at cost they couldn't do much about it. or something like that. course, you're probably right... if they made a stink about every doujin or fanart out there then they would be spending more time tracking down all these people and spending too much on legal fees instead of just making new products. plus, fanart to me almost seems like free advertising. XD

Haha, very true, very true indeed. Even the stuff that isn't for the kids that a lot of people come up with, still keeps the franchise going. I guess they just suck it up and hope for the best, lol.
I want to do my own fanon AU thing with a huge combo of stuff from a ton of the multiverses, but sometimes I kinda get paranoid about it and just draw random imagery. Should just get over that fact that Hasbro isn't going to come break down my door, compared to a ton of the stuff I see.

they've actually got an artists alley now? i sat in the dealer room sharing a table with some friends selling prints and sketches the three times i went... i was there in 01, 02, and 03. i really miss botcon. i haven't been able to go for so long.

Aww, well, maybe you can go next year? Here is hoping it's somewhere not too far away. I really wanted to go to this one as I had set up to stay with a friend there but plans changed and well, blah...
And from what I read about the pamphlet they do. I probably wouldn't be able to do an artist alley myself, despite being told I could when we went to an anime con...i'm just a bit iffy of throwing things down randomly because i'm so ocd about certain stuff. I could probably draw like head shots all day long though, LOL. Well, sorta, haha.

i'm kinda the same way. one year i was sorta at the mercy of the person i was sharing a table with. i basically was able to share the table if i did some commissions for her on the spot. so i spent a lot of time there working on a couple of drawings for her. i did only a few other sketches... they kinda took me awhile though because i didn't think about limiting people on what they asked for. so i like... full scenes for some of them. that was a bad idea. it ended up taking most of my time there to do them. if i ever do that stuff again, headshots only...

A simple way to handle the Autobot symbols is to make one in Adobe Illustrator, and apply that to each of the figures in Photoshop on separate layers after coloring is completed, tweaking the angle and perspective of it to match each character in the drawing.

Yeah, I do almost all of my own colors. I've only had two pieces colored by someone else, and they were TF Mosaics pieces. The writer colored them.
