Description
This little cup was a custom order, and a long time in the making. It is silver, about 10cm high, and set with garnets aroung the stem, and with an enamel of a black stag under the base. The top and bottom were raised from sheet, the stem fabricated, and all the detail work done in repouse onpitch. It was a difficult project, however the customer is very happy with the result.Related content

Ha, I was always so psyched about your painting that I never noticed this stuff! It's great, it's all great! This one in particular is very Chalice-ey.

Metal is really my main thing. I sell paintings and sculptures here and there, but I make my living with the metal art and with teaching it at a studio in the U district in Seattle. [link] The hollowware is one of my favorite things to do.

aw, no way! I knew you were from the Northwest but I didn't know where. I'm from Seattle! I'm going to college now but that's where I come home to. Maybe this spring or summer break I can come and see your stuff in person.

I don't live in Seattle, but I teach there, and wherever else they are willing to pay me to do it. I live in Mud Bay, between Olympia and Shelton. I don't know if your spring break lines up with a time that I will be in Seattle, but summer is a good bet, and I would like to see some of your drawings in the real colors as well. Drop me an email at bill.metalsmith@gmail.com when it is closer to the time, and I would be happy to meet up and look at artwork. Maybe by then I will have some more cool stuff to check out.

You do some really cool things with images yourself. The difference is that I am mainly a 3-D person. This little cup was one of those projects that took way too long working out the details of how to make it happen. On the other hans I just love the way the base came out. Thanks for stopping by when you noticed that I had you on the watch list. I had noticed you on the favorites lists of several others whose pages I like to visit now wnd then, and decided to check out your work.
Thanks.

Rio Grande sells the black Oriental Pitch, and Northwest Pitchworks supplies several hardnesses of a good greenish pitch, and for fairly reasonable prices.

Not too much fun with this one; too many parts that got done more than once. I will be loading pictures of one that was fun soon though. I am however very happy with how the bottom came out, and with the save I worked out when one of the settings for one of the garnets broke at the last moment. It involved mounting the replacement on a silver rod, threading the rod, and running it horizontally through the stem, and setting the opposite stone over the end or the rod. I have to look closely to see which is the replacement. And what counts is that the customer loves it.
All the best.

I haven't checked the exchange rate, nor have I today's silver price, but One like this would run $1800 or so Can. Dolars. This one is an order that was paid for over a year ago.

Why thanks! I would rather do wildlife, but flowers don't move as much. I'm gonna start experimenting with still life/studio fairly soon.

Georga O'Keefe and Imogen Cunningham did that so you are in good company.
