Description
This is the second illustration for my Baba Yaga illustration project. Each night, it is said, she rides through the forest in her mortar, rowing with a pestle and sweeping away the tracks with a broom. I didn't portray the broom here, since I felt the composition worked better without it.And of course, that charming house balanced on a chicken leg, surrounded by a fence of glowing skulls, waits for her return.
Watercolor and colored pencil on illustration board, 9X12 inches.

This is so creepy yet beautiful. I like how thin she is. Thank you, in name of all Slavs.

I love that story, but I ain't heard it in so long that I forget how it goes. I remember the mortar and pestle, the chiggin' foot house, and the skulls, but I don't remember a broom or the glowingness of said skulls....
She looks friggin' awesome!

Thanks! Though I'm not sure where the broom is that you're referring to.

Oh, I was talking about the broom you mentioned in your artist's comment, where she uses it to steer her mortar.

Oh! Sorry, I completely forgot about that. Yes, in the story I read, she rowed with a pestle and swept the tracks away with a broom, but I thought the composition worked better with only the pestle, so I omitted the broom.

I like that it seems dark, so you can tell it's night, without losing contrast.

Baba Yaga is one of my favourite fairy tale/legendary charaters, though she isn't so nice...
I like your design of her. Did you made her arms so skinny to make them look like a chicken legs (you know, house on chicken legs, chicken legs are quite skinny...)?
I love the grass!

I made her skinny since she's often described as being skeletal. And the allusion to the chicken leg works well, too, I think.

You're right. Most witches are described as skinny, or skeletal. I guess it was just my twisted mind that saw the connection between those two
. Thank you for your reply.

The perspectives are wonderful.
I love the soft, flowyness of your colouring&style, contrasting with the hardness of Baba and her bony features.
