Lots and lots and lots of layers.

Isn't it a pain waiting for it to dry though?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

windfalcon In reply to dragonghostangel [2009-08-02 16:07:57 +0000 UTC]

It's not too much of a pain. Watercolor dries pretty quick, depending on how wet the layer is. My glazing layers aren't nearly as wet as, say, the first layer I put down on the white paper for color and texture.

I don't think she's happy with the end of her journey. The horse looks suspect to me. Is it a cousin of the kelpie luring people into the forest, never to return?

Either way, the look of this is rather more flowing with defined contrast than you normally do. But I also like the way there's a halo around the figure and an ambient loss of detail in the distance. It makes for a very nice atmosphere. Very haunting.

windfalcon In reply to AngelaSasser [2009-08-02 03:08:22 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking about the 'forest kelpie' concept while painting this. Originally the mane was going to be branches, but it turned more leaf-like as I let the kelpie idea settle. There was a whole story going on in my mind. Maybe I'll write it out sometime.
