This is quite lovely. How do you attach the feathers together?

I use an acid-free bookbinding glue :3 It works quite well.

When you make a work on more than one feather, do you connect the feathers with anything more than the shared paint?

Just wondering, but do you think you could use acrylic gel medium to do the same thing?

Acrylic gel I've found dries a lot slower than PVA, so it could work, but probably not as well.

Beautifully done, Brenda. How do you stabilize the feathers before, during and after the painting process?

windfalcon In reply to keight [2011-08-28 02:22:53 +0000 UTC]
I use an archival bookbinding glue to keep them together initially, and the layers of paint afterward makes it even more stable.

You then mount them on the matboard after the painting is finished?

I use waxed thread to wrap the quill, and then tie it through holes in the matboard. In this image, I simply put a piece of matboard behind the feather and scanned it.

Thank you. I may never get to try this technique but it is nice to know a bit more about it.

Do you glue the feathers together somehow before the painting, or does the paint keep them together?
