One thing is still bugging me though - what pastiche did you read about the Giant Rat of Sumatra? I just finished reading the one by Vanneman, but it clearly is a different one...

I chose one by Richard L. Boyler. It's quite nice, actually and most definitely better than some other small pastiche I read of that case. Although the latter did better justice to the "for which the world isn't yet prepared" bit. But I suppose that is hard to get right in any case but on earth would be "not ready for the world to be known"?

Thank you for the answer.ย I'll take notice of Boyle's book, although I am afraid it will be hard to get in libraries in my country. I was so happy I had found the other one ;-D. Doyle is easy to get, but the pastiches are not so widespread.

Ah, well, I went to buy those books. And I was really quite spoiled I think, they had loads of pastiches there and at least 4 different editions of the canon. I really should check what they have in my library here...
