Just for the record I hate that song, but it honestly was the only thing that fit with both the picture and a little something I want to get off my chest…WARNING; LONG, ANGRY RANT! DO NOT READ IF YOU CANNOT KEEP AN OPEN MIND AND/OR IF YOU’RE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT OTHER PEOPLE’S VIEWS AND OPINIONS HAVE VALID POINTS THAT DESERVE AS MUCH RESPECT AS YOUR OWN!
This was drawn in response to several rude reviews I’ve gotten about Valerie on Blackbird, not to mention a piece I saw some D/S shipper do where she called Valerie a ‘Fat Chick.’ As I’ve said a million times before I don’t ship, but comments like that REALLY tick me off. I’ve never seen Valerie as fat. Honestly, I think she has a very respectable figure…
And even if she is heavyset, what right do they have to mock her for it? She’s clearly in top physical form from what we’ve seen on the show, and she’s a beautiful and confident young woman who still hasn’t reached her full adulthood yet. It’s like Obi said not too long ago in one of her journals; The media is giving us such an unhealthy and unattainable opinion of what we should look like in comparison to what we do, and far too many people are encouraging those views with sick comments the like aforementioned.
The thing that annoys me most is the fact that there are so many comments like this from so many D/S shippers, whereas most D/V and even D/P fans I know are completely respectful in comparison. I’m not saying that there’s aren’t rude D/V or D/P fans out there, but there in the vast minority when you compare them to all the fans making rude comments about the other females on the show just because they’re a threat to the D/S relationship.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like D/S, and I’m in no way blaming the D/S fans out there who actually take the time to be courteous and respectful of any wrongdoings. I know many people both here and on FF.net who avidly support the D/S relationship that are friendly and fun to talk to, and I’m not trying to alienate any of them. I just want all the ones who think there’s so high and mighty to come down a bit…

Yeah, it was a bad insult that really got my blood boiling. Thankfully, 99.9% of the fandom shares my opinion, including the majority of Sam fans. One bad apple didn't spoil the bunch in this case.

^^ There will always be haters out there. Interestingly enough, I can no longer find the peice that inspired me to draw this on DA, so I'm pretty sure that the artist took it down. Hopefully, this means that she found this picture and realized that she was acting improperly.

I really appreciated a cartoon having popular characters, ones the main character considered desirable, even, with figures that actual human females could conceivably achieve without a starvation diet or corset. It is disgusting that we are so used to seeing wasp-waisted cartoon women that realistically drawn healthy women ones drawn criticism.

Bah, while Valerie does have a somewhat fuller figure than all the other girls on the show (who probably would count as overly skinny they visited a real-life dietitian), it's a pretty weak move to use "omg FAT CHICK!" as an argument against a ship.

Too true. I'm woefully skinny myself, so I envy girls with curves, and I think it's so petty that people will put them down for how their body looks. Then again, I've gotten a lot of nasty comments as well...

Yea they really do. I always have a soft spot for weird/under apreciated couplings. Like Vlad/Danny although kinda creepy does make sense seeing as though they're both the only two of thier kind.
But going back on Valerie x Danny yes they are definatly my fav straight DP couple. To me it makes more sense than Danny x Sam even though they were best friends for awhile I just don't think it would work out.

Thank you! ^^ I've always had a special fondness for Val, because we saw her grow up so much from her snotty one-scene appearance in Parental Bonding to the epic fight against Vlad to save Dani in D-stabilized. I'm still pretty upset that they left her out of Phantom Planet, save for a crappy two second reaction shot when Danny transformed at the end (One of many things that made PP a terrible ending to a good series. T.T )

I think she developed more than a lot of other characters did (aside from Danny).
When you watch Shades of Gray, you meet an innocent Valerie who suffers a little and isn't quite sure of herself in life yet, and then Life Lessons there's a stronger Valerie who now knows what she knows and what she's gonna do, and then you see this much more grown-up, seemingly taller, deeper-voiced Valerie in D-Stabilized, it's really amazing.
I liked Phantom Planet very much. Very cute ending with just the right amount of ambiguity in my opinion, but that's just me.

Well, in the beginning Paulina used Danny to make Sam mad, but after being saved by Phantom twice, she bacame infatuated with him, even though he was still considered a dangerous ghost back at that point. I may not speak for all D/P fans, but after that I started to find Paulina had her own funny little charm, and I began to really like her for it.

and I seem to notice no one remembers she used to be a jerk when she was on the A-list, and nows shes better cause now she doesn't have power...seems a bit..wrong

I remember Klemper. He's somewhere in my gallery, I think.... Technus/Dani? I've seen it before, but never really got it... I'm partial to Youngblood/Dani myself.
People like Valerie because she grew up and matured, going from a spoiled brat to a hardworking and mpathetic person willing to fight for what she believes in. She's a strong person, in more ways then one and her ability to bounce back after taking such a hard hit impressed people.

also she grew up spoiled and bratty, to someone trying to blame a ghost for her troubles. Ifphantom wasn't there and this happened, I'd wonder how she'd cope without someone else to blame for her misfortune
hardworking is probably so she could get revenge, or not let herself down, but besides motivation, what would seperate her from breaking down depressed?
I don't know, I just never thought of valerie as mature or hardworking, just a teen coping with life, like usual. I mean most people around her never had the stuff she lost to begin with, such as being spoiled and etcetera

She seemed mature to me in DS, when she sympathized with Dani's plight and tried to help her before finding out she was a ghost. And she even told Danny she didn't hate him there, too... Her hunting him wasn't a matter of resentment as much as it was her purpose, something she was good at and that she liked to do since she felt like she was helping people. I'm not saying Valerie was perfect, she was most certainly flawed, but she wasn't a bad person or anything, just a girl who still hadn't seen the full picture.
