Description

Now normally, around this time of year I draw a greeting card for a wholly Romanian tradition called "Mărțișor" your basic Spring Festival type thing which is celebrated in Romania on March 1st.

This year however, considering the horrific invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Army, my closeness to it and the fact I have friends and relatives there (luckily near the border and not currently under threat) I initially just couldn't.

On March 1 I just sat in front of a blank piece of paper and stared at it while doomscrolling on my phone. In the end, I drew this and then fiddled with it intermittently until I got it to where I wanted it.

Ironically, this is the first thing I did in Krita instead of PS or Corel painter and I loved the brush presets.

The flower is a snowdrop , symbol of spring and rebirth.

The casings are 7.62x54R Russian and I decided to make them in brass instead of lacquered steel, so this could in fact represent WW1, WW2 and the current invasion of Ukraine.

The text just reads "March 1, 2022"

Finally, one more thing: Слава Україні!

And for good measure: Ру́сский вое́нный кора́бль, иди́ нахуй!
