Description
EDIT, 27.02.16: made church tower in last panel smaller, because it looked out of place.New first page of Shadowless.
Not much to say about it.
The motorcycle is an 1894 "FΓ©lix Millet" with a five cylinder radial engine located in the back wheel. In real life it was the first ever to have pneumatic tyres and also the only motorcycle to ever use a rotary engine. Top speed is thought to have been 35 km/h (no functioning examples exist to prove this, and in RL production was very low).
Since the soldier is British, the motorbike must be a local requisition.
Also, the perspective in the last panel, with the church tower in the background, would be impossible - the spire is not visible form that far up the street, but I wanted to visually link this page with the next.
Also, the building on the left is the town hall for Sainte-Jamme-sur-Sarthe, which in our world was constructed in 1913, so it wouldn't have existed in 1904. But hey, this is an alternate timeline anyway, amirite?

I've seen a picture of this motorbike and thought the idea of a rotary engine built into the rear wheel a great idea!

This is very cool. I don't really know your tastes, but the sexy and exciting novel THE FLAME THROWERS might interest you. One of its inter-linked storiesΒ is about Italian 'futurists' joining the motorcycle corps in WWI.

Interesting. I've heard of the book, but I didn't give it much thought, because the main story takes place in the 70s, which is not an era I have a particular interest in. Thanks! I'll put it on my ever expanding reading list...

Radial engine located on the back wheel... that is an interesting piece of tecnology!

Which is exactly why I used in the comic. I like showing people new stuff, or, on this case, an old thing that very few ever knew about.

Huzzah! Glad to see the return of this comic. I've thoroughly enjoyed the past few iterations.
