Description
Finally, I managed to finish these drawings, which had lain unfinished on my hard drive since 2011.These are vehicles for the Tambrian side of my webcomic Inner Space. They will have a semi-active role in the comic appearing a few times but for the most part they will be used as background props.
This image is a counterpart to the one depicting Marbanian Tanks .

*************************************************
The TAU-8/30 is a small amphibious tank.
It's name can be translated as "amphibious tank, 8 abe, 30 hatte" (description, engine rating, calibre of main armament), with the engine rating given in the Inner space unit for measuring power, the "ab", an unit of measurement derived from early steam engines and roughly equivalent to the terran "boiler horsepower". Thus, 8 abe equates roughly to about 106 hp.
Since the weight of the vehicle is 6.5 tons, that is enough to propel it to a speed of 45Km/h, while the operational range is roughly 450km.
The vehicle is armed with a 30 hatte (40mm) semi-automatic vertical block gun capable of firing 20 2kg shells per minute up to a range of 914 m.
Maximum thickness of armour is 10 hatte (13mm).
It has a crew of two, one driver and one commander/gunner/radioman.
It is based on the real life Soviet T-40 .
*************************************************
The TU-10/35 is the main light tank of the Tambrian army. It was initially designed for infantry support, but after the adoption of specialised APCs it has instead been relegated for reconnaissance and as a platform on which many other specialist vehicles were built.
It is a versatile little vehicle, with a weight of 10 tons, an armour thickness of 45 ht (60mm) on the front glacis plate an equipped with a 10 abe (130 hp) engine which allows it to reach a speed of 42km/h.
Operational range is 350km.
Main armament is a 35 ht (46mm) main gun. Since this was not designed to fight other tanks, armour piercing capabilities are marginal, only 66mm at 500m and 88mm at 100m, but in the anti personnel role it has a rage of almost 4000m with shrapnel shells, making it a deadly enemy.
The gearbox is in the front of the tank and it is located in a cast cowling attached to the front plate via bolts, which makes it easy to access for repair / replacement in the field.
The crew is made out of three people, a driver, a commander who doubles as the gunner and a radioman/hull machine gunner.
The tank is based on the real life Soviet T-70 .
*************************************************
The TUC-10/6 is a light command / artillery observation vehicle based on the same chassis as the light tank, but with a casemate instead of a turret.
The crew is also made out of three people, with a driver, commander/ observer sat to the right of the hull and a radioman in the back who also operates the machinegun set on the roof.
The vehicle is based on the real life German "Artillerie Panzerbeobachtungswagen auf 38H"
*************************************************
The VCU-10/60 is a light tank destroyer /spg based on the light tank chassis.
The turret is replaced with a casemate with a 60 ht (80 mm) thick frontal plate with the gun mounted asymmetrically to the right of the armoured box.
Because of the vehicle's small dimensions, the weapon chosen was a special low pressure smoothbore semi-automatic gun with a calibre of 60 ht (80 mm). It is designed to fire shaped charge ammunition (also called hollow-charge ammunition, high explosive anti-tank, or HEAT) as well as a wide variety of high explosive and anti personnel rounds, so it can be used both in the anti-tank and infantry support roles.
The standard HEAT round was 2.7kg and can defeat 140m of vertical armour up to a range of 750m. Although the efficacity of the round itself does not decrease with range as it happens with kinetic penetrators , the low muzzle speed (520 m/s) means that beyond that range the accuracy drops significantly.
An improved version of this weapon, fitted with an autoloader, can be found on the Tambrian R.U.R-825 Armoured Personnel Carrier .
Crew is made out of three people - driver, gunner and commander.
The vehicle is based on a variety of real life light tank destroyers such as the German Hetzer with hints of the Hungarian 43m Zrinyi and Italian Semovente da 75/34 while the gun itself is based on the German Panzerabwehrwerfer 600 and Soviet 2A28 Grom .
*************************************************
The OAU-10/90 ("light self propelled howitzer 10/90") is somewhat of a failed experiment.
It was originally designed to supplement the firepower of light motorised infantry units by providing them with a mobile, hard hitting self propelled artillery piece capable of reducing fortifications. To this end a 90 ht (120mm) howitzer was mounted in a special turret on the light tank chassis.
Unfortunately, despite the fact it worked reasonably well against it's intended target, it proved very unpopular with their crews. Its mechanical weaknesses could mainly be attributed to the new turret, which apart from giving the tank a high profile also added significant weight to the vehicle, stressing the suspension and the engine. Indeed, the speed of the vehicle also dropped significantly, from 42km/h to just over 25.
Because of the redesigned turret, the crew for this vehicle was made out of four people - driver, hull machine gunner / radioman, gunner/ loader and commander.
It is based on the real life Finnish BT-42 .
*************************************************
The DMT-10/6 ("mine clearing vehicle on a light tank chassis -10/6") is an engineer vehicel designed to double as an ammunition carrier for the light SPG.
The turret was removed and the space below hollowed out and closed off with armoured doors for transporting ammunition, while a dozer blade was affixed to the front controlled by two winches ran from the engine via a gearbox. The winches can also be used independently of the dozer blade.
It is armed with a single hull machinegun and the crew is made out of two people - driver and commander / radioman / machine gunner.
*************************************************
The VAAU-10/15 is a light AA vehicle armed with two 15 ht (20mm) autocannons in an open topped turret designed to protect against low flying enemy aircraft. The cannons have a cyclic rate of fire of 800 rds per minute and an ammo reserve of 750 rounds per gun. They are operated by the commander /gunner of the tank which sits on a chair suspended from the gun mount and thus tilts up with the guns. Both the turret rotation as well as gun vertical adjustment are done manually and the guns can be depressed and elevated between -5° and +85°.
Besides the commander/ gunner, the crew of the tank is made up out of a driver and a radioman / hull machinegunner.
The vehicle is based on the real life Soviet T-90 self propelled anti-aircraft gun .
*************************************************
After the failure of the OAU-10/90 in the anti-fortification role, the Tambrian Army decided to try a different approach and created the APRU-10/120.
This is basically a cluster of twelve unguided, tube launched, 120 ht (160mm) calibre rockets mounted on a simplified turret fitted with an optical sight. The rockets are fired electrically, either in pairs or in a single staggered salvo and have a maximum range of 3500m, hence their being mounted on an armoured rather than a soft-skin vehicle.
The aiming is done either directly using the gun sight or indirectly by firing from behind an obstacle and using an observer. Accuracy isn't as good as that of conventional artillery, but the terrifying destructiveness of a single salvo arriving on target more than make up for it.
There is also a resupply vehicle based around a non-armoured truck equipped with a crane, which means that the whole resupply manoeuvrer must be made in a safe location.
Crew is made up of three people - driver, hull machine gunner /radioman and commander / gunner.
Real life inspiration for the vehicle can be found in the Russian TOS-1 and German 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 auf Schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper

#5 looks almost like a BT-42 tank from the second world war.

Of course I did, I only post my own art.
What important matter would that be?

I'm well you see I'm trying get tanks drawn for my own setting but I can't draw for crap so I wondering could you draw them for me if I gave you details of what I'm aiming for. If you can't draw for me do you think you could tell how you go about making your unique but awesome tanks.

Well, I can draw and I do take commissions, but I don't work for free. I sent you a PM with my usual prices.
As for teaching you how to draw and design your own tanks, I'm afraid I can't do that, because I'm not a teacher, nor do I have the time for it.
The best advice I can give you is draw. A lot. If you want to draw your own tanks, start by making lots of drawings of existing tanks. Try to understand them as objects first and also how they work. Watch documentaries , for example.
The one thing I can tell you though, is that becoming an artist is not easy or fast. It takes years to become good enough.
On the other hand, I can tell you you don't need to go to art school or get any kind of expensive art courses. Just keep watching the world, drawing it, and maybe look into a few how-tos by artists on the internet, because they might have techniques that can come in handy, especially for making your work easier.

Now I see it - the TU-10/35 is a cross between a British Crusader and a German Panzer III.

Reminds me a lot of the Panzer I/II, 1940 French tanks, awkward British cruiser tanks, and the crop of odd 1930s Soviet armour wiped out in Operation Barbarossa - essentially tanks that at best serve well in secondary security roles (the TU-10/35) or become amusing design dead ends that get stuck in ditches (of course the OAU-10/90).

Well designed and well researched! Even though it is a bit of a disaster, I love the way you designed the turret of the OAU SPG. Very convincing construction.

Yes; mostly because there were real life tanks with designs just as disastrous as that one

Nice and realistic designs, yes sir That OAU-10/90 is an utter abomination. I can imagine the faces of the guys who have to climb inside that and drive it into combat

ask the people who umped into the IRL BT-42 xD, I did a project for school on that tank, unlike what is stated here it's intended target being the soviet T-34's, the 112mm British Field-Howitzer could not damage them so much because of the extremely low penetration of the howitzer (it was a 1910 model field-gun so there is a reason why) And yes it had strain on the suspension and engine and another thing being it topled over more easily than the other vehicles

I know that by "toppled over" you mean being toppled by enemy impacts or steep slopes; but now I've got this mental picture of the tank firing its gun and toppling over from its own recoil

Thedragon1998 In reply to Arianod [2015-08-20 19:24:18 +0000 UTC]
it was toppled over by driving to close to a ditch, but yes there was recordings of when they tested it that when firing the gun with the turret turned to the side it could topple over if it stood on a slope, so like the KV-2 it has to stand on level ground to turn it's turret and fire it's gun
