Description
So remember what we say here at Vector Vengers? Yes, that's right: "Comics Are Bonkers." And the story we are going to TRY to explain here is super, super bonkers.
Part 8:
Okay, so the West Coast Avengers, minus non-official member Hank Pym, get toss back in time by ridiculous super villain, Dominus. Unfortunately, while time travel is kind of awesome, the machine used, one of Doctor Doom's old ones (dude just has old time machines laying around with coats and shit hanging on them like that BowFlex trainer at your uncle's apartment)...is broken and can only go BACKWARDS in time.
But this is comics where everything is super convenient, so the Wackos show up near a cowboy battle involving old times Western heroes the Avengers have met before. In fact, one of them is Hawkeye's old buddy, Two-Gun Kid (look him up here on Vector Vengers), whom Hawkeye even took to the future with him and very lovingly hung out with for a long time before Two-Gun decided to hoof it back to his original time period. I have no evidence that they were a couple, but it was at least a bromance.
Now, for an actual, honest to goodness gay cowboy, we have to look at this fellow. Johnny Clay, otherwise known as The Rawhide Kid, was as kind-hearted, moral and upstanding of a cowboy hero as you could hope for. But according to some comics that came out 50 years after he was created, it turns out he was gay the entire time, possibly making him, retroactively, one of the oldest, if not the oldest Marvel LGBTQIA characters.
Anyway, the Wackos help Two-Gun Kid, Rawhide Kid, and another Western hero called the Phantom Rider, chase off some outlaws, and then help them fight what can only be described as Wild West Super Villains, that honestly may be too ridiculous to spend time drawing. Because yikes, they are the goodies of goofballs.
Then again, this story gets super dark soon (which is saying something since it started with Hank Pym considering suicide!) so maybe we need the goofy vibe...
