Description
Realistic Iberian Wolf, or a subspecies of Gray Wolves from Spain. There is currently a population of about 1,000 of them living in the mountainous regions. These wolves are known for their distinct reddish colorations, and are fairly small for wolves. This one comes with realistic skinniness!
I have since improved this plush, it is HERE: [link]

The western European subspecies are by far my favorite gray wolves; I just love the red fur
It looks very soft and realistic, and the side views are especially amazing! Great work!

Wow, really nice job, especially the realistic fur ^_^
May I give some suggestions though?
First of all, you could paint your own eyes. They sell clear plastic plush eyes and you can appearently paint on the back of them.
Ow and the thing about the face, it looks fine, except for the nose and perhaps those white markings. They should be lower and closer to the eyes, and more round the eyes.
I hope this helps, obviously not for this one, but maybe for the next ^_^
Ow and another thing, I sometimes use bamboo skewers in the legs of my crocheted plushies, not very kid friendly though :S

Lol, I am always grumpy about flaws in these guys because they're insanely hard to fix once it's done, but I do plan to fix the face from the front, and change the wiring in the legs so that the feet can be more flat-looking. Thanks for alerting me about it.

Oh, that works pretty well. The nose looks a little like a koala, but I haven't figured out how to control shape with the techique I am using now . I am horribly bad with paint, and obviously I don't sell them for the prices someone willing to do that would.
I actually was aiming for white eyebrows, not white around the eyes, because that's what the picture I was looking at had. More European wolves are dark around the face area, but have a light spot above the eyes. Not always true though.

OH MY WORD. Girl, I can't turn your back on you for a second without you improving exponentially. This is one hell of a wolf plushie! And nice job blending different fabrics to give it a more grizzled appearance.

WHOA! When did you get so good at legs? The proportions on the legs are perfect, especially the hind legs. By george I think you've done it! KEEP THIS FORMULA

WolfknightlordJ In reply to justjingles [2010-05-12 21:05:39 +0000 UTC]
It was SOo hard to do. If I stuffed it normally it won't stand, the only thing keeping it up is the wires in it's legs.

I haven't been watching you very long, but honestly, in that time, I've seen SO much improvement in your Wolf plushies They really are gorgeous!
The anatomy is wonderful (and I know that's really hard to get right in a plushie. But if I could just pick up on a couple of things that =Eviwolf said as she noted that she couldn't give you a constructive way to fix it.
I think the side profile of the head is wonderful, and the eye size is great - it just looks a little bit crooked in front view that's all. (If you ever want to use glass eyes you can do some needle sculpting on the face and it'll look really realistic.)
And for the flat feet - what I use when I want to make my bears stand up is just to put a piece of funfoam or cardboard in the bottom of the foot and them stuff the feet really well.
But never the less this turned out a beautiful plushie and I'm sure it must've had a fair few pattern pieces to it and taken a while to make, definite
(sorry for the huge essay of a comment btw/!)

WolfknightlordJ In reply to AlmostPepper [2010-05-12 21:08:45 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to get the eyes straight from the front because there's no way of measuring where the eyes will be in the finished piece, even if I marked it on the pattern. I usually do my best. I did actually do needlesculpting on the face to make it more realistic, so for this pattern, this is about it's limit.
Cardboard is a good idea. It's kind of a problem that the legs are so long and skinny, it'd be hard to fit a piece of cardboard, or even my fingers in there (the stuffed animal isn't that large XD)

AlmostPepper In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2010-05-12 22:30:52 +0000 UTC]
I know what you mean plus as soon as you start needle sculpting everything shifts around! the general shape is really good though, and I love the profile.
Maybe use fun foam as you could bend that to get it in, or leave a slit in the feet to put the card in. Either way it's a really lovely plush and I think your wolves are brilliant

Slitting the feet might work, I don't know how else to get something bigger than the legs inside them, but the way it's standing is mostly fault of their stuffing and the wire from the bottom XD.

It was actually some VERY soft 1' inch faux fur, I bought two colors, one red-brown, and one silver-dark brown-black. I used them together to make the patterning on the wolf.

In the little time I've watched you, you seem to have gotten much, much better! I'm very impressed, most of your plushies are top-notch.
There are only a few things that bother me. First, the face... I don't even know why, there's just something off about it. I think it's eye size and placement, but I don't have any constructive way to tell you how to fix it. :c Just seems weird to me.
Second, it looks as if the legs on one side are longer than the other, giving it a slanted kind of stance. But that may just be the way it's standing, haha.
Good job, though, I love the realistic look of the fur, and the anatomy is really quite good!

WolfknightlordJ In reply to Eviwolf [2010-05-11 15:51:29 +0000 UTC]
Is the face crooked? Or just not wolf-like? Or is it only from the front or from the sides too?

Eviwolf In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2010-05-12 00:55:01 +0000 UTC]
It looks awkward from all angles for me... I think it's the type of eye you use. The fur is super-realistic, and then there are these crazy plush eyes, lol! But I imagine real glass eyes would be impractical and expensive. Maybe adding an eyelid somehow would help? So it's less wide-eyed, perhaps?

WolfknightlordJ In reply to Eviwolf [2010-05-12 03:48:24 +0000 UTC]

WolfknightlordJ In reply to Eviwolf [2010-05-11 15:46:08 +0000 UTC]
Probably because the nose didn't come out right. I haven't made a perfect face yet.
The legs aren't uneven, the feet are stuffed, and I put wire inside it, making me have to balance them to make them stand. As of yet, I haven't figured out how to make the feet flat.
