Description
This is my rather cynical version of the traditional image of Justice. It would seem, and rather unfortunately so, that the people who are truly good at heart and do the most to make sure they are shining examples of what a human being ought to be tend to be the very same ones that get the short end of the stick the most often and go through the most hardship, not just when it comes to the legal justice system, but throughout life in general. I decided to symbolize this here by using her traditional scales to weigh a human heart against a pile of money, and unfortunately, the money seems to carry more weight. Sometimes I wonder what exactly it is that Justice is truly blind to. Here, Justice is based on ~SweetMadness-stock , the background comes from stock.xchng , some isolated objects from clipart.com , and some birds from brushes by ~spiritsighs-stock .Related content

Justice is not blind to anything... If it is blind, then it is not Justice...

Thank you! The hair is by far the part of the piece that takes me the longest. I paint it in totally by hand a strand at a time. I think the key is to make sure you have a few different shades running through it so it feels believeable, and also to make sure you shade it a bit with your burn and dodge. It helps it feel shiny and gives it movement.

And along with money weighing more, add to the scale the lawyer's talent of persuasion and how to make the law work for him--whether the person is innocent or not....and the power in that...

Justice is a redhead? I am intrigued.
The heart, it seems, will always lose to greed.
Not always, but way too often.
How sad.
Nice portrayal.

Thank you! This, sadly, is inspired by personal experience. The nice thing about such experiences though is that they make for wonderful art.

Life's experiences have a lasting effect.
If we do not blind ourselves by our emotions,
the true intent and desires of another are often revealed.
We often refuse to believe what we see,
even more, we tend to refuse the obvious.
This piece still takes me, overall it is done nicely,
it is just the two little elements,
love and greed, playing out on the scales which
complete it so well.

Painstakingly! All the hair in my pics is completely painted in by hand one strand at a time and then shaded with burn and dodge to give it some shape. It takes a long time that way, but it pays off.

i think you have depicted her very good, and cynical, not really, it is just a true fact that the ones who are try to do good always end up with the mess... think the reason that justice is blind, is because she don't want to see that her justice isn't justice at all
i like it that you used the red color as a primary color. like it depict the unvisible blood on her hands from inocents that she brought " justice" and the bad guys escaped from it. the symbolisme of the scales is just great, i couldn't say it myself better
, and the little doves like a symbol of hope that mayby justice actually brings justice
even if you don't believe in it anymore
another awesome work with deep thoughts in it

Thank you very much! I thought that maybe the doves would help it seem a little less hopeless, I suppose... and I added the skull at the bottom of the trail of coins as a warning that choosing that path leads to no good.

my pleasure my first thought was, the doves are such a strange item, but than i rememberd that doves stands for hope , and than i fell all to pieces
with the skull i thought the heads of innocents that get hurt by justice because of the ones that get away with it because they have more money than them
. i love paintings like these because of their hidden meaning

I really like that idea, and it hit me right between the eyes, because I`ve just been through a tedious experience being just what you wanted to show, that the heart often weights light against other things (not nessecarely money thoug(

Definitely. It's not always money, but it does tend to be something material or peripheral that should be less important but isn't.
