Description
Causing wrecks at sea and strolling on the beach.... all in a days work for a siren. Depicting my own version of the legend of Lorelei is a notion I've been kicking around in my head for a while now, but I just couldn't think of a way to do it that would make it "different". Originally I was going to depict her more as a mermaid, but then ditched it, since it seems so many other people were doing gorgeous mermaid pieces at the time and mine would just be "one more", so I put the idea on a shelf for a while. In retrospect, I'm glad I did, because not only have I gotten lots better at creating elements like oceans and ships since, but because one of my favorite models from Deviant Art, ~AngelCage-stock , created the beautiful reference photo used to help create Lorelei since that time. It just fit perfectly... and it's different. I guess sometimes it's good to let ideas rest on a shelf now and again. Background, wrecked ships, and seashells are from photos found at clipart.com .Related content

Very well done and expressive. The shipwrecks are great. (The rendering of them that is.) And she seems so delightfully oblivious and unaffected by the devastation behind her. Wonderful job.

i like it when you've placed more contrast in this one. i think final pieces are more - um, how should i put it - awe-inspiring when there's lots of things going on with the contrasts.

Thank you very much! I'm terribly into refelctions right now, so you guys will probably see a lot of them in pieces to come. I'm always trying to learn how to integrate something new, and nice reflections seem to add such a special touch.

Thank you! And yes, I think it was her eyes that made me think of going back to my Lorelei idea when I found that stock photo.

I love her face! She looks so cute and innocent, I'd you'd never think she could be the cause of so many sunken ships....

Thank you! I always think of mermaids and sirens kind of that way though.... completely oblivious to the fact that causing shipwrecks and drownings might not be a very nice thing to do.

HEY! Quit painting such moody scenes so well. You're putting the rest of use to shame. ๐: 0 โฉ: 1

Hee hee.... I don't know what's with me and all the moody scenes. My boyfriend even remarked a little while back that I seem to have an extreme aversion to painting sunny skies or scenes with calm weather in them. I think it's because I'm just not much of a sun-lover myself. I like fog, and rain, and lightning, and especially snow.

You should be in upstate New York right now then. It rained two nights ago, with fog in the morning, then the temp plummeted last night, the rain turned to snow and we're a winter wonderland again. It's freeeezing out ... I dreaming beautiful dreams of Cancun right about now I'd settle for a shipwrecked stormy beach though as long as its WARM.

I'm in Connecticut, so we've certainly had our share of the stormy weather! It snowed quite a bit last night and this morning, and it was devilish cold pretty much all day. Just made the nice hot dinner I made that much more inviting.... hee hee. I just love the winter time.
