Causing wrecks at sea and strolling on the beach.... all in a days work for a siren. Depicting my own version of the legend of Lorelei is a notion I've been kicking around in my head for a while now, but I just couldn't think of a way to do it that would make it "different". Originally I was going to depict her more as a mermaid, but then ditched it, since it seems so many other people were doing gorgeous mermaid pieces at the time and mine would just be "one more", so I put the idea on a shelf for a while. In retrospect, I'm glad I did, because not only have I gotten lots better at creating elements like oceans and ships since, but because one of my favorite models from Deviant Art, ~AngelCage-stock , created the beautiful reference photo used to help create Lorelei since that time. It just fit perfectly... and it's different. I guess sometimes it's good to let ideas rest on a shelf now and again. Background, wrecked ships, and seashells are from photos found at clipart.com .
