Description
This piece is probably pretty self-explanatory without my translation, but this is my version of the green absinthe fairy. Even though I've never had absinthe, and in fact don't even drink, I find the idea of absinthe quite fascinating and always have.... the color, the stories, the rumors, and especially the fairy."Green Fairy" was actually a brand of absinthe back in the days when it was more commonly consumed, and the bottle actually had a green fairy on it as part of the logo. Absinthe induces a rather creative, transcendent state of mind, and for that reason was supposed to be the "adult beverage" of choice for many artists, painters, poets, and so forth. It was also thought to drive them crazy eventually. Supposedly it is also possible for you to hallucinate if you consume absinthe, and many users actually thought they would see the green fairy fly off the bottle and zoom around the room.
The green fairy is something you do still see depicted now and then artistically. She even appeared in the movie Moulin Rouge, which would be interesting to see if you haven't yet and would like to see a "live" version of her. She is thought to be two-faced like absinthe..... both a seductress and a demon. I've seen her done with red eyes or alongside skulls or death heads to illustrate this concept. However, I didn't want her to be scary in my version. I thought I'd make her nude, and give her a tattoo on her hip, to help her seem a little more mischievous though. The absinthe fairy is here based on the beautiful `lockstock , and other stock art used to help make this are from clipart.com and sxc .

Sorry, I don't give out high-res copies to anyone for any purpose. I just don't want them "out there". I hope you understand. I also don't allow people to use my artwork on products or anything unless they want to pay for a license to do so. If you want to buy a license, you can let me know though. Completely up to you.

This is fantastic. I love the books, the fairy, the glass, the candle and holder, the concept behind it. It is refreshing to see your fairies in less than usual contexts. The description is the icing on the cake. Great work.

Thank you! I originally didn't have much for a description on this, but a couple of people told me they didn't know what the Green Fairy was, so I fleshed it out a little.

Many artists use absinthe to get some imagination for their creations, but if i'm not wrong you must mix absinthe with something that i don't recall (maybe a little bit of opium). you can see johnny depp doing that in the movie "from hell". i'm telling this because me and my friends already drunk a lot of absinte and we saw nothing. besides this "little story" you have made an wonderful work, you even caught the true green absinte color. great composition too, joining the books, with the glass of absinte and the candle, creating the atmosphere for someone who's searching the enlightment

Yes, you could be right. I probably read about that at some point, but have forgotten. You know how that works! I thought it would be kind of cool to pair the absinthe and the fairy with some kind of background that represented creativity/enlightenment. Books seemed a good happy medium.

Oh - I love the idea, but I'm especially found of the worn books. They sure look real!
I remember the Absinthe fairy from Molin Rogue, it was Kylie Minogue, and your fairy actually resembles her a bit, don't know if it was intentionally or not.

It was a little intentional. I loved the Moulin Rouge version of the Green Fairy. I tried to make her a little different though.... she has longer hair, and she's a nude.... but otherwise pretty similar.
