Hi guys! This is a new set of 12 artworks I did for the new Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion. Although the dateline for this book was a lot tighter it nevertheless was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.As with the last book I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the Reader's Companion. Enjoy!
This scene is from The Courtship Of Princess Leia and it is the first proper depiction of Teneniel Djo, witch of Dathomir and future Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium. Luke Skywalker, who was checking out the wreckage of the Chu'unthor, is caught off guard by her sudden appearance and barely dodges a kick to the face. This is totally an unfair match-up but Miss Djo has no clue who she's dealing with.
For those who don't know there is actually an existing depiction of Teneniel Djo but it is a black and white sketch done back in the 90s. The publisher felt it was not reflective of how she's described in the books and so we gave her a little update and sexed her up just a wee bit so this result of it.

O_O I REMEMBER THIS SCENE!!!! OMG The Chu'unthor! I've always wondered what the wreck of a travelling Jedi Academy looked like! (Dear God I'm such a nerd XD) I thought this was like the most awesome part of any bit of the Expanded universe.

His pose isn't really befitting the amount of action going on. His arms certainly aren't poised to swing the saber at her, nor to block her kick. His right elbow should be up much more in either case.
Just thought a bit of critique would be good. ^^

I'm so glad you did this. I don't read many of the expanded universe books, but this was one of them and I never much liked Teneniel and wanted to see a proper depiction of her.

Incredible work with this. Perfect depiction of Djo, and the art has such a brilliant sense of momentum and action. Always love when female characters can be depicted as both strong and beautiful.

Whoa! This is amazing work! And I think I've read a summary of Luke's time in Dathomir in the book (the light side perspective from Tionne's perspective, the dark side from perspective Darth Sidious' hologram from a holocron) which gives the basics of what happened between the Jedi, Sith, and other force wielders up until the mystery of Mara Jade's death (which in the case of the book I read, which i no longer have, remained unsolved). However, at the end, it does talk a little about how Ossus was attacked during Cade Skywalker's time friom the perspective of a padawan who servived. It's always nice to have a visual reference of what happens.

Depends, she was born their but was sold away when she was just a baby and grew up on Rattatak.

Love this! The only thing which bothers me is Luke's legs don't seem to follow the perspective of the rest of the image. None the less, AMAZING piece and waaay more challenging in perspective than I would even attempt so kudos.
I'm assuming you work in painter... I'm curious what tools you use?

This is a really good version of Teneniel. The moment I saw this on the front page I thought of Tenel Ka, but realized she was different enough and older so she had to be Teneniel. It's pretty cool that I could instantly figure out who this must be.

I thought she was a redhead there and half wondered if this was Mara Jade.
And if all the Witches of Dathomir looked like her, I have to wonder why you didn't have guys deliberately crashing on the planet to be taken as their mates. (What? I like Amazons.)
Amazing artwork, and I'll keep an eye open for the book.
