Never comment on a witch's age... Honestly, you'd think it went without saying that you don't mess with any sort of magic folk, but people still make those same mistakes all the time. This young man was lucky that the witch only made him into her daughter, rather than a newt or a statue for her garden. Even better, with a few more adjustments, the new daughter will become mommy's little princess, and pay attention to her mother's magic lessons.

why would spells be in latin? Why do we fetishize a dead empire?
you realize they were the inspiration for fascism, right? it's cool to acknowledge their rich history and influence upon our modern civilization, but we shouldn't glorify them and i read too much into this, didn't i?

Because Latin served as a dominant language for much of the European continent from prehistoric time until a few hundred years ago.
Because spells are typically considered to be passed down from the ancients through generations in secret so they'd retain their original phrasing.
Because Latin has, since ancient times, been considered the language of academics.
Because practitioners value their traditions.
Because magic becomes less understood as time passes with practitioners relying on what already works instead of innovating out of necessity.
I guess spells could be in Mandarin. Though it'd likely still run afoul with you.

Latin isn't an empire. It's a language, and one that went beyond borders at that.
Additionally, selecting a language that makes sense in context isn't "fetishizing" it.

yeah,but there is only so much you can do with makeing magic spells. latin is a dead language so most people dont speak it and it sounds weird and "mystical" so it gets used,and a spell being something backwards is good cause if you want to cause a fire the spell might be erif,or something which sounds cool and weird. just depends on what people think sounds cool.
